No, not at all.

I think you will find that it is NOT appreciated when someone (i.e. you) tries to claim association by acquaintance/notoriety.

Had you said 'I met XYZ and we talked about........', or 'I found him to be most XYZ', it would have been more acceptable.

As it was, it just seemed like someone 'showing off'.
