Does anyone know what the big hype is with operators using LEDs?
Metrobus changed the lights on the rear of their single deck Omnicitys at the top to LEDs. Ive also noticed with Omnidekka refurbishments theyve changed the rear door and front door lights to LEDs and possibly the cab light.

I think the benefits of LEDs vs traditional light bulbs or halogen lights is that LED's are more reliable and will not need to be replaced half as frequently as light bulbs, if ever. I think the LED's also use a fraction of the power which a light bulb would use. Go Ahead's recently refurbished VWL's on the 180 also have been fitted with LED lights by the rear doors, think there were halogen lights there previously.

Arriva Kent 3266 R266EKO (402 Pointer Dart) has been fitted with LED blind displays on the back and front of the bus

It seems that only rear lights are being retrofitted to LED on most buses (I know London Gentral have fitted LED side repeaters to their refurb buses) so as they are all the same bulbs (I know a Plaxton Pointer body have the same type bulb for ALL indicators/brake/fog/reverse lights) so although the rear lights may be changed you'll still need a stock of bulbs for front and side indicators. Arriva (Southern Counties) are retrofitting LED blinds to the whole fleet outside London so this would include the 402's Another point to LED lights is as well as all the relaiability issues (as they are actually a cluster of several LED's if one fails you still have the others working I've seen buses with 50% of a LED light not working but it's still visable and clear) they are also brighter and more visiable to other road users.

Another point to LED lights is as well as all the relaiability issues (as they are actually a cluster of several LED's if one fails you still have the others working I've seen buses with 50% of a LED light not working but it's still visable and clear) they are also brighter and more visiable to other road users. LED blinds are good, especially the ones that Arriva use. The disadvantages i think are bad visability in photographs, but that is hardly an issue for passengers. Also, some operators use cheap ones, which look dreadful and are very hard to read. Centrebus are a good example I think, as I've often seen bad examples around Harlow and Waltham Cross.

VN37835 BV10WVE has returned from Volvo Brimsdown and was seen back in service on the 58 this afternoon.

Took a pic of that bus at brimsdown the other day.
Talking of LED lights they have been use since V/W/X reg the first london marshalls at W reg were delivered with LED brake lights (where it appears as just 5 dots in the middle of the cluster when brake light not on, then when brakes are applied the whole cluster lights up), the X reg versions same again but these ones also gained LED rear marker lights.
The V reg London central PVLs were delivered with this same type of lighting also.
The AVLs were delivered with normal lights then were converted to these 'fancy' LED lights after a while.
I think some people get confused with the differences with LED lights so I thought I would point it out for example
the 38s batch of DWs have normal LED lights while the new ones for the 149 have 'ringed' LED lights.
