A nasty incident happened earlier when the 17:45 Train from Victoria to Rochester left the Platform at Sydenham Hill &, the connection between carriages broke. Thankfully it seems no one was injured. news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/7672721.stm

I would assume its the connection between 2 seperate units as opposed to two individual carriages.
Did'nt they have a problem like this baefore, about 10 or so years ago which resulted in very reduced services and virtually 70% of the fleet being taken out of service for mods?

They had a few trains where they delibratly uncoupled the train on the move. Ah found a link mikes.railhistory.railfan.net/r134.htmlQuite how it worked exactly I don't know I am sure there must be something on the Web about it

One such place served regularly by a 'slip coach' was Westbury in Wiltshire. The slip coach was the last one on the train at Paddington, and was 'slipped' just before the junction on the West Country main line east of Westbury Station on the branch line. The coach was brought to a halt on the main line, wheron a GWR pannier tank ran out from behind the stopped coach and pushed it into the platform at Westbury. I vaguely remember this on a couple of trips down their as a young child.
