Recently on buses from a number of different operators and garages the iBus has been bringing up messages about reporting suspicious behaviour and keeping your belongings with you. It seems to be very common and on at least some of the occassions im sure the driver hasnt taken his hands off the wheel to activate them himself. Are Centrecomm randomly sending out these announcements to all the buses in the city or are the drivers just playing them themselves?

As far as I know, its the drivers. Also, when you get to the end of the route the ibus plays the messages itself about the buses terminating there. But if you play the message yourself, ibus mentions about the bus terminating there and also mentions about taking belongings with you

Route controllers can initiate these messages as well as the drivers, from thier workstations, to one bus, a group of buses of the whole fleet all at the same time. I'm pretty certain centrecomm can do this as well. Centrecomm and Route Contollers can also talk over the PA as well to the passnegers in the same way the drivers can, again all from their 'cosy office' - sorry workstations!!!
I had an occasion once, when i was doing a 401 and the 'no smoking allowed' announcement played, now i know i had'nt pressed the button as i was driving down yarnton way, however on my return to the garage i popped my head in the radio room only to be greeted with a few laughs from two of the official's in there!! They knew i was on that bus and were 'in thier words' widing me up!! I actually thought i was quite good 'as well as funny'!! But just goes to show the system very versatile and it does work, when it want's to!
