I personally like company's that invidualise their routes with a special livery, but i think it only works on some routes rather than having loads of different coloured buses, what a mess, like reading buses.

Branded buses for routes is a nice idea but when it comes to operators actually sticking these vehicles on other routes it's misleading to the passenger. I mean last two mornings I have had to travel on an N87 and it was the branded 11 WVL. It defeats it's object if an operator really does not stick to it's route branded bus principle. Nice it may look but keeping it on route in practice is another matter.

NCT and Trent Barton are very good at keeping branded vehicles on the right routes. I think it boils down to the commitment of the company to do things right down to the nitty gritty details.
As long as there is a distinct theme within a company, I think route branding DOES work well.

I was working in the Reading area the other day and Reading bus seem to use a lot of Branded buses that were all in the right place, NatEx WM (TWM) are very good at keeping buses right, even though I hate the new corporate livery the route branding is very clear and simple

Branding would be nice in London, plus it wouldn't have to be route orientated either.

I personally don't like it when companies brand routes for much the same reason as londonbusman - it's a good idea in theory but when it comes to the practicality of the buses staying on the route they are branded for it doesn't always happen. It's happened in Basildon - a route 8 branded bus found it's way onto the 100

I remember LG's NVs' from the 74 at putney that had route branding, they had destinations like Hyde Park, Kensington, Piccadilly etc on the side which are served not only by the 74 but by the 14 and 22 as well so you regularly saw them on the 14 and 22 on sundays when they were opo operated. (14 and 22 at the time were RM operated).
