According to bustimes.org, yesterday 6960 was on the 22 & 21. I thought those routes couldn't take double deckers?

According to bustimes.org, yesterday 6960 was on the 22 & 21. I thought those routes couldn't take double deckers? Was a ticket machine swap.

Well when the hydrogen gets into the bus then it is green but the manufacture of the hydrogen produces plenty of carbon that will have to be stored and the other so called green way uses more power than it produces. So I think Metrobus are only looking at the first point.

Aren't Southdown's routes 357 and 409 up for tender this year? Hopefully Metrobus can win them

Aren't Southdown's routes 357 and 409 up for tender this year? Hopefully Metrobus can win them Haven't been up to date as such on the Surrey Tender Results as I like as I am with London and even then I'm not the most clued up on it aha, reason being even though I have been around the areas where these two serve a lot (On there London/North Surrey side) as I don't live far from them, school wasn't too far etc. What I'm aware with these routes is 357 has a contract that started on 2014 and 409 has one that started on 2016, that's how much I know lol. If lengths are the same as the one in London, 409 would be up this year with it's 5 years and 357 up as well with 7 years, 5 years + 2 years extension from what you said. But I'm not sure if the contract lengths are the same or handled like the one in London, but I'm pretty sure. Also would be nice to see the 409 back with Metrobus, always a route that I associate their Surrey/Sussex services with especially when it use to serve Croydon as child seeing it's out of place single decker blue and white bus at Fairfield Halls. And with the 357 duplicating the 409 from Selsdon to Caterham, I could also see this going alongside with 409 wherever it be Metrobus or Southdown which the 357 has always been with If I'm aware.

Surrey do not do "good behaviour" contract extensions like TfL. The 357 is a commercial service so will not be tendered and never has been. The plan is still for the 409 along with the 236 and 410 to be tendered this year. I'm biased, but I'd like to see Metrobus back on the 409 too. The 357 does not duplicate the 409 to Caterham either - both have very different routings from Whyteleafe.

Aren't Southdown's routes 357 and 409 up for tender this year? Hopefully Metrobus can win them I believe Southdown do have some Surrey County Council contracts due to expire this year. Surrey's tenders are usually awarded to the successful operator around June for a September start, however there's always the possibility they may get extended. I believe everything due last year got an automatic one year extension to this year due to the pandemic, but contracts can - and do - sometimes also get extended under normal circumstances anyway, particularly school route contracts. Looking back at past tender results, the following routes are potentially up for tendering this year (with routes won from Metrobus previously having an *): - 236: East Grinstead to Oxted (contract 21, prev 45)
- 409*: East Grinstead to Selsdon (contract 21, prev 517)
- 410: Redhill to Hurst Green (contract 568)
- 422: Crawley to Reigate (contract 472)
- 424: Crawley to Redhill (contract 472)
- 594: Oxted to Westerham (contract 21)
- 595: Oxted to Westerham (contract 21)
- 603*: Oxted School to Redhill (I believe journeys merged into route 357) (contract 21, prev 567)
- 694: Lingfield to Oxted (contract 21, prev 592)
Out of interest, is there a particular reason you want Metrobus to win them from Southdown? Southdown aren't an operator I have personal experience with, so just curious really.

Southdown won the 409 by combining the running of it with the commercial 357, which allowed there to still be 2 buses an hour between Caterham and Warlingham yet saved Surrey council a lot of money. I think the 357 is slightly helped by the council as I don't know if the 357 as it replaced the less frequent 540 between Caterham and Redhill plusthe Redhill - Reigate section of the 424 when it got restructured. Surrey CC though are allowing the Redhill to Selsdon section to not run at all at the moment so I guess it's mostly commercial and can't make any sort of money whilst schools & colleges are off. I must admit all the 357s I've seen in Warlingham since the start of lockdown 3 have been carrying fresh air so I'm not surprised.

6012 has been converted into a mobile vaccine unit www.metrobus.co.uk/vaccination-bus/Sounds like a great idea for a use of buses not needed, especially given much of the demand for fastway revolves around the airport which won't be at full capacity for a while sadly.

6938 hit a bridge this morning in Burgess Hill. This looks nasty, wishing the injured a speedy recovery!
