When the district and circle lines are shut between aldgate and embankment there is no replacement bus service but the route 15 is OVERLOADED so why carnt tfl run a replacement bus between aldgate and embankment or even elbg putting extra buses on between aldgate and trafalgar square

Therefore the sensible idea is not to run a replacement bus service. There is one late at night though, when roads are quieter and makes buses more worthwhile. I do know that for some closures, extra buses are put on local routes, but am not aware if this applies to this work.

Its more of a strategy now to put extra buses on local routes that could get overcrowded instead of a dedicated rail replacement. There have been examples some ongoing on routes 2, 30 49, 66, 108, 148, C1 to name but a few. I do know that for some closures, extra buses are put on local routes, but am not aware if this applies to this work. I think this was done when Sheperds Bush was closed - the 148 had additional shuttles between the latter and Marble Arch.

Anybody wishing to travel through the closed area shouldn't really be getting on the buses. Much easier to use alternate LU lines.
Temple is walkable from the Aldwych that has copious number of bus routes from Embankment/ Holborn.
Mansion House is walkable from St Pauls.
Tower Hill is walkable from Aldgate East - C2C to Fenchurch Street - DLR to Tower Hill.
IMHO buses should only be provided where there is no alternate rail (jncluding NR) service available.

Tower Hill is walkable from Aldgate East - C2C to Fenchurch Street - DLR to Tower Hill. I would not want to walk to Aldgate East given the number of major roads you would need to cross. It is also not a particularly friendly walk, traffic fumes aside, and tourists would very easily get lost with all the junctions and backs of buildings.
