I did a shift on DLR rail rep on the 9th and we didn't encounter problems at Canning Town with standing. (Though we were running a reduced service). We parked up on the southbound side stands then served stop C. According to our maps, we were also able to use Malmesbury Road if necessary Interesting as even this morning I have seen buses running light back to Canning Town via the 147 routing.
Malmesbury Road seems a very odd choice as that's not even a road where buses run, I suspect they mean the 323 stop on Manor Road, The maps we are provided with are low quality and don't clearly show smaller roads so could've been another road next to it. Stand arrangements may be different for DL services compared to DLR services

Rail Replacement buses are struggling find places to stand in the Canning Town area. Before the 304 started there had been using the Custom House stand on occasions but now this is not available they seem to be using Victoria Dock Road (The section not served by buses). Last week I also noticed the old 5 stand / 323 stop at Canning Town was being used and this was full to the brim making it impossible for service buses to serve the stop. Route DL-7 was scheduled to stand at the turning point opposite wickes in Manor Road. I was under the impression for this closure that a dolly stop would be provided for any passengers using the 323. Otherwise buses would be able to stand on Silvertown Way turning via Royal Victoria.

Not sure what was happening with the T service on Sunday morning. The first bus came out very late from Barking and proceeded to drive like it was not 8 minutes late. The driver also stopped at Forest Gate station as well as Wanstead Park and he also stopped at Leyton Station (at the W15/W14 Town Hall stop). In the opposite direction there were 4 buses (2 and 2 together) that were within 20 minutes when it is supposed to be one every 20 minutes.

Just saw TA32 rock up at Brighton for emergency rail replacement. Thameslink cancelled their last trains of the day to London.

Do Rail Replacement buses get monitored like normal routes. The L3 was poor yesterday and there were some buses that did not run at all meaning a long gap to the next. This is not unusual for RR which makes me think they can get away with it.

This is not unusual for RR which makes me think they can get away with it. If the route is on iBus, then TfL can easily see performance data, and controllers have to manually note down data such as running numbers and times and try and ensure the service runs well (through things like holding buses back etc.)

Separately, thinking back the last couple of RR services I have taken in the past weeks, the buses I was on did seem to have ibus 'turned off' and not being picked up at the countdowns for example. I assume RR routes are harder/unfamiliar to set up on ibus for the drivers - but I have no knowledge of what the setup process is so just guessing.

All roadside controllers (you may see them in a yellow or blue (Abellio London) hi-vis have a Bus Running Record, which is basically an input sheet - this varies company to company but TfL can request an audit to see BRRs. I believe most operators keep them locked away in a filing cabinet! All roadside controllers are expected to send service reports to management, these are discussed in a meeting with TfL the Monday after a rail job. On busy weekends you may see TfL surveyors at bus stops recording times, passenger numbers, bus presentation etc. MTR seem to monitor performance on their routes (UL16, UL51) more than LUL/Arriva Rail London. TfL seem to have taken a step back due to the crippling driver shortage operators face - remember; service bus takes priority over rail.

If it has been decided to be on, drivers are given instructions on logging in (easy) and staff often assist with it on stand. Even when it's off, staff still always have to make a manual record which is sent to the office and audited

Though working UL51 recently, MTR still seem to have staff at every station taking pictures and notes of each bus so seems they are still closely monitoring

It is both time consuming and expensive - one little mistype/error renders the route variant 'invalid'. In this day and age where funding is in question, most new RRP contracts are awarded at short notice.
