On paper, they are 316's and the MMCs 112's No they were ordered against the 112 contract and continue to operate on it, the 316 is a DE route. The 316 is part DE, part DEL

I believe the 19 reg DEL were mainly ordered for 324 with a few for 112 extension but they couldn’t fit on route 324 so that’s why del frequent 316.

The 19 reg DEL’s were ordered mistakenly/purposely/some other reason for the 393. Obviously the 393 couldn’t use them so they were then earmarked for 112 & 324 but for whatever reason, the 324 hasn’t been able to use them so they pretty much are all for the 112 currently (bar the one that is at AH)

Today I was on TE988, which got rear ended quite hard by a van in Brent Street upon stopping at some traffic lights. Whilst the cosmetic damage isn't too bad (Just a bit of a crumpled rear bumper and engine cover, as seen by the photos below) it took a hit mechanically, with the engine cutting out and immediately smoking right after being hit, minor smell of burning accompanying this. It also leaked a lot of liquid onto the floor, what I can assume to be coolant or oil (or at least something along them lines). Whilst this bus will most likely be repaired, it'll probably be on the VOR list for a week or 2 after this. Pictures of the accident below: Picture 1 - www.flickr.com/photos/147684000@N02/52256802565/in/dateposted-public/Picture 2 - www.flickr.com/photos/147684000@N02/52256594339/in/dateposted-public/Picture 3 - www.flickr.com/photos/147684000@N02/52256595384/in/dateposted-public/On another note, the next 240 that came for me was TE979, which has recently gained WOB blinds - having previously been the last fully YOB blinded TE at Edgware [EW]. It made its debut back onto the 32 for the first time since 2013 on the 18th July, and has been mainly staying on the 32 since being reblinded - ignoring the odd 204 & 240 appearance - this bus has noticeably become very sluggish which perhaps could be why, TE990 which is another (if not the most) sluggish TE tends to be stuck on the 32 a lot as well, probably owing to the lack of challenges for the buses due to being a fairly straight line with no major hills - unlike the 107 & 240. Shame about TE979 currently as it used to be very good, but to make up for it most of the other 59 reg TEs are performing really well at the moment - TE991 which had been sluggish for a time is now back to being quite speedy. As for TE988 I hope to see it back soon, as thats also been a very good one lately.

Don't know if this has been mentioned here yet but 142, 187 and 487 have all been confirmed to get new buses. That’s brave considering how many buses Metroline could have spare by next year. If the spare buses are leased they can simply go back to the leasing company. If I were being devils advocate, could not Metroline go to TfL and offer to deck the 187 and 487 for free using the spare DDs!!!!! Might be cheaper for Metroline than new single deck electrics.

Why do the 112 DELs sound different from the earlier models like DE869-1174 and 1583-1899? They have Euro 6 engines, hence the extra grilles on the back and the rectangular exhaust. Those older ones are either Euro 4 or 5, depending on when they were built. I thought at all TFL Buses are now EURO6 following a retrofit programme, therefore shouldn't they all sound the same?

The only buses currently in London as far as I'm aware that had their sounds changed recently is some of the Euro 5 Enviro 200's that were retrofitted with the Allison xFE gearbox which are more fuel efficient than the Allison 2100 gearboxes they used to have and those xFE refits are mainly done on Go-Ahead and Metroline examples so far, even that the sound changes is down to the new gearboxes itself.

To be really honest from my experience atleast the Hybrids sound all the same or very similar. Of course we have Alexander Dennis and Volvo ones

I thought at all TFL Buses are now EURO6 following a retrofit programme, therefore shouldn't they all sound the same? Only the exhausts were changed, not the engines themselves. So they should sounds the same. That being said 3 buses were retrofitted with Euro 6 engines for various reasons, those being DW411, DE20128 and LT8. Other than that, all the others have had Euro 6 exhausts fitted. And different engines sound different because they are! Thanks for the info. I'd say they all are Euro6 then as it's mostly or fully the exhaust that emits Emission (not a vehicle expert for the record). I was on a Hybrid G1 on the 333 earlier and to be fair it sounds the same as G2/G3 Volvo's.

You know I've never properly understood gearboxes but hear all the time regarding ZF + Voith etc. Need to learn what they are somehow 😀
