According to the TFL, there's gonna be a strike on the Victoria line tomorrow. Being my main route to college, it'll be absolute havoc if the entire line is closed off.

It's total chaos out there without the Victoria line running... AFAIK, the Piccadilly line has to do all the back-breaking work of shuffling people from Green Park to Finsbury Park.

When victoria line is closed it caused chaos for us drivers in brixton. One time I remember, dropping passengers off at brixton and they all rushed off towards the tube station. I went towards the traffic lights waiting for them to change and I saw them all rushing back towards the bus stops (where I originally dropped them off) as brixton station was closed. Once person knocked at my door and I was at the lights so I thought why not let her on. I opened the doors for her and they all rushed on I sat there for five minutes, blocking all the traffic behind as I was taking two lanes. I will never do that again. Back to the victoria line thread, the 2 gets affected as it goes all the way to victoria. Also buses to kennington and stockwell including 345 gets affected as thats the nearest station for passengers to use if brixton is closed. Victoria line also goes to oxford circus so us drivers on the 3 and 159 gets affected too

Under Industrial Relations Laws, I don't think LU are allowed to use a replacement method of moving people if there is a strike.

Ok then they should put on replacement buses if the normal service carnt cope I see two big problems, given that this strike was on a weekday with the schools open for business: 1) where would you source the buses & drivers from? 2) what effect would such a rail replacement service have on local traffic?

you would get the buses from a local bus company like when you run replacement buses As in the same companies that run rail replacements at weekends? If the answer is yes, then that is my point - weekend rail replacement is possible using buses that are on school runs, free supermarket routes, peak extra's, etc, etc on weekdays. These vehicles are therefore not available on a weekday, and neither are the drivers. If you are suggesting there's a bus company with enough spare buses and drivers available on a weekday to cover rail replacement of the magnitude that would be required to cover the Victoria line.....all I can say is they must be damm good at making money by keeping all their drivers and vehicles in the yard. Another point though that has occurred to me; running a rail replacement service for the Vic, particularly on a weekday, would take some serious planning - given that this was industrial action by just one Union, it may well have been possible that some sort of train service could have been run, or the industrial action called off at the Eleventh hour. Rail replacement buses are never organised to cover for industrial action simply because there are too many variables and the resources cannot usually be mustered anyway.

There's more to come apparently. A strike has been confirmed on Thursday and another next month on the 18th so don't be too surprised. Luckily, I don't have college on those 2 days so it doesn't affect me at all , unlike last time.
