It’s now been confirmed that the 30 Class 707’s are to transfer to Southeastern once the Class 701’s enter service. My understanding is they are not due to replace anything and will be used for additional capacity. www.railmagazine.com/news/network/southeastern-signs-deal-to-lease-unwanted-class-707sWould be interesting to see what happens with the rest of the SWR fleet being replaced now. My thoughts are that the remaining 455/8’s will end up at Southern to increase capacity and potentially the 456’s too to create a 10 car railway across Metro services, maybe even 12? The 455/7’s could either go down to the coast and replace the remaining 313’s early, or maybe they could go to Northern as part of Porterbrook’s proposed 455 FLEX programme and replace Pacers on the manhoodtone Line between Huddersfield and Sheffield, currently slated to receive reformed Class 150’s. I could also see the 458’s ending up with Northern who could do with more electric stock

I could also see the 458’s ending up with Northern who could do with more electric stock (Speculation) Despite the recent refurbs I don’t see much of a future for the 455’s and 456 units (and good riddance to the latter in my opinion). I would have thought the 769 Flex programme would produce enough units to not require 455 conversions? I have a feeling the 458s could be heading for the scrapyard. 458531-536 have no pantograph wells too so it’d require a bit of a job to convert to AC. Yes, they could go to Southern/Southeastern too (but would they take them? and how easy is it to set them up for DOO?) Of course, the 707s moving over to SE is logical for once. Now, if only more carriages could be ordered...

The 455's could be used as longer alternatives to Class 150's since they are of similar build, so for Northern who are looking for three car DMU's mainly to replace the 3 car Class 144's around Yorkshire, the 455/7's would be an ideal candidate to convert and use alongside Class 150's for a few years (providing you remove the 508 TSO).

The end doors are being changed to light grey, to match the standard SWR livery on thee types. Not sure why the doors are blue here, as the CGI images for the 701s had the first and last set of doors in grey. The CGI images also did not have yellow ends - is there a reason why these have been added? The same applies to Greater Anglia's similar 720s.

Like the contrasting darker grey stripes I can only sssume it saved money on manufacturing costs and logistically for spare parts. SWR is such a shadow of SWT.
