Wow. They’ve been very quick to get these out on testing from delivery. I worked with the testing of the 707, 456, 455 AC traction and 458/5, from delivery to testing took a lot longer!

Perhaps, with the 707s now being destined for Southeastern and the current delay in introducing them, it’s being accelerated somewhat?

When are the 707’s due for south eastern? That’s a shock still. Bloody good trains from a drivers point of view

Bloody good trains from a drivers point of view From a passenger point of view I don't mind them to be honest ok they are not the most comfortable of trains ever but you can say that about any new train. I think for during rushhour they work brilliantly with all the space on board. It's just a bit boring how every company is ordering the Aventura at the moment there's no variety on differene lines now. I took a trip on a class 385 which was great so maybe in the future we'll get some down south.

Bloody good trains from a drivers point of view No date has been given for the 707 transfer to begin (the Covid impact might have put things back), but the later the better — lack of toilets aside, they’re the best units I’ve worked. The Aventras have a tough act to follow. Testing runs are ramping up — unfortunately due to signals going wrong, today’s (daytime) runs to/from Dorking have been cancelled.

A few months ago it was decided these would be the final trains cascaded from South Western Railway, after 455s, 456s & 458s.

Island Line will close for up to three months in early 2021 to allow infrastructure upgrades, ahead of the introduction of the Vivarail class 484s (ex-District Line D stock) later in the year. The upgrades will include a new passing loop at Brading so that a regular 30-minute interval service can be operated. Rail replacement buses will operate, including a minibus shuttle on Ryde Pier. There will be five 2-car 484 units, each will carry up to 188 passengers (86 seated and 106 standing). Under normal circumstances four units would be rostered for service each day, operating singly. At peak times it will be possible to operate one four-car train carrying up to 376 passengers.

Barring unforeseen delays, 3rd January may well be the last day of the 483s.

Also, following an inspection by ASLEF, the latter have deemed the 701 cabs not yet acceptable for drivers. (Chief among which, is the cab egress distance being 220mm rather than the minimum distance of 400mm.)
Until that (and other issues) are resolved , including social distancing restrictions, driver training won’t be starting anytime soon.
