Have heard elsewhere that the Class 442’s are to be permanently withdrawn from use and will be replaced by Class 458’s, which SWR are now retaining. Oddly they are converting them back to 4 coaches but regearing them so they have the ability to work long distance services. Seems like a lot of £££’s down the drain if you ask me, considering that the 442’s had all been refurbished and retractioned. While I have heard about the 442 project being potentially abandoned, I’m very very sceptical about the 458’s being a suitable replacement. They’d maybe need a minor interior refit to make them suitable for outer suburban work. less poles, armrests, and refurbished toilets. Seat spacing is adequate already. Also the reliability is quite poor. They’ve fallen significantly over the last year.
If the 350/2 or even the 379 could be converted to dual-voltage that would’ve been a better solution in my opinion.Edit: disregard that, seen an internal source confirming the above.

You do raise a very good point about the 350/2's. They would have been ideal for SWR, as they are familiar with the Desiros and would come at little cost over converting Class 458's. However I'm guessing SWR were offered a better deal with the 458's from the ROSCO since they haven't found a new home to go to. The 379's meanwhile are rumoured to eventually end up at Great Northern as long term replacements for the Class 365's. As there's 30 379's, they could also replace the 387's which could move to Southern which could then release enough 377's to replace 313's.

This is great news personally. A shame that the London United dispute is showing no sign of ending, and a couple of their forthcoming strike dates are potentially going to cause me problems

Unusual place to sell a train. It looks like it has been battered. The listing mentions it was a doner vehicle and states it's needs a lot of repair so someone with deep pockets can really only afford that - good to see it sold so hopefully it's with a good home

Unusual place to sell a train. It looks like it has been battered. It won't be the first time. The prototype for the 92 stock was up for sale recently.

Has it already been sold?! Seems to be, not sure whether it become the victim of someone's drunken purchase or is off to a good home but it will be interesting to see if it ever materialises somewhere in the future.

I found this ridiculous. After all, why is it that many other trains run without a guard that are longer. Or even worse busier trains such as London Underground etc run without one. The union are very double standards and a comedy case at times.
