I personally haven't ever been a fan of any Voith SD buses, especially since Euro 4. The performance between a 3 speed Voith E200 and a 5 speed Allison E200 is incredible. Allison gearboxes are also much less discrete in sound compared to Voiths which just drone on and on for days. The best thing about any Allison gearbox is the sound of the retarder when at high speed. That's probably the reason why I've come to love routes like the 463, S1, 166 and 470 with their fast sections where the retarder sound was exhibited very well. I've always loved Voith but once switched to Euro V, Voith isn't the same anymore. I did initially like the Euro V Voith Enviro 400 but ended up being bored of them - same with Euro V Enviro 200's & Streetlites but I prefer them to Euro IV or V Allison Enviro 200's which are dull as well. Euro VI Allison & ZF (double & single decker) is great and it's a shame Stop Start killed them off As for Voith SD's, special mention goes to the 227 SPD's which are probably my favourite single deckers ever just for the amount of character they had and the scream of the Voith box when thrashed or when struggling depending on the actual member of the batch. Quality Lines Voith Esteems were nice particularly that one ride I had on SD45? on the S1 (it's on YouTube) as were the 251's Voith MCV's and MDL1. The Esteem Voiths on the S1 and S3 were extremely loud buses but they also had a lot of issues. The two short variants on the S3 as an example had very narrow gangways which made it hard to fit prams through. They all also suffered from very hard seats which were absolutely awful coupled to the awful quality of the roads in Sutton. Its probably fair to say that the current fleets of the S1 and S3 are much more refined (apart from the three 08-reg SDEs ). The best thing about the Esteem was the extra legroom on the rear right two seats which was perfect for tall people like myself. ELC is probably the only other manufacturer other than Optare which considered that there are tall people that exist

I personally think the best thing about those SPDs was the squealing sound the retarder made on some of them as the bus was coming to a halt . I've tried to find examples on Youtube but drawn a blank. They did have character, a nice wail as they progressed through 1st and an ability to downshift at will. They also had decent legroom. They were a bit underrated really.

Slightly newer than some of the ones that used to be on the 227 - This one used to be with Lothian I believe. Absolutely fantastic retarder and can be heard multiple times throughout the video.

Oh yes. You can eventually hear that squeal from the retarder at 7:57, don't think I've heard any Voith buses other than the SPDs do that!

I was curious to see if I've ever managed to record that sound before and it turns out I have www.youtube.com/watch?v=AczVCnlr67o - around the 52-54 second mark. The 41 L class Olympians that ended up with 3 spd Voith boxes as part of their refurb would also make that same squeal

I hope that Arriva doesn’t order StreetLites for the 192 😂 Ive probably jinxed it now. but it *seems* the AL South subsidiary gets StreetLites and the the North division gets MMCs (Except the two ADLs for the 289 increase but that was probably to go with its predecessors). Given that they have far more MMCs than StreetLites I would probably say they will get some more MMCs but you never know!! (Especially if ran from E to go with the 377 buses). MMC routes: W4, W6, 377, B13, part 289 StreetLite routes: 450, part 410 It will be MMCs for the 192, to keep everything standard, though I bet the original ENs will wander onto the 192 at some point, such as EN9, and new kit appear on the 318 Buses mag have decided to order new Streetlite buses for the 233 instead of 232

Is the 51 transferring to BX? Not that I know of. Why would you think that?

The 51 is transferring to MB due to drivers etc when the 208/227 comes to MB the 51 drivers at MB will do those. No idea if the ENs will transfer with it

No idea if the ENs will transfer with it I assume you mean the 51 is transferring to BX? Makes sense if MB don't have room although I would imagine there will be a lot of TUPE drivers with the 208/227 given the short distance involved?
