Why are these newly refurbished trains being replaced in 2013? It seems a bit of a waste to me.

Why are these newly refurbished trains being replaced in 2013? It seems a bit of a waste to me. They are starting to enter service from 2013 but won't be complete until 2018. I agree it was a bit late in life to refurb them but still they should get 9-10 years service! Source : www.tfl.gov.uk/corporate/projectsandschemes/10140.aspxBut with the financial black hole who knows if this will happen!

I take it that you have picked up he 2013-2015 dates from the TfL website tube modernisation I think the current cash crisis might see this slip a bit, What happened was that under Metronet SSL it was decided to make one huge train order (mix of 7 and 8 car) with Bombardier which would equip Metropolitan, Circle, H&C, and District (in that order). The refurbishment of D stock was an interim solution (although having done it, I agree 6 years before withdrawal is wasteful)

The refurb was well overdue and is welcome sight to see on the units. Have to admit that the programme was carried out at a very, very high standard, though the seats leave a lot to be desired at times Much better than the refurbs carried out on the NatEx Class 315 units ;D

I wish the A stock on Metropolitan Line had a refurb because everything looks so out date.

I wish the A stock on Metropolitan Line had a refurb because everything looks so out date. Everything "looks so out of date" as you say because the A-stock trains were refurbed in the mid 1990's.

IIRC the first D stock refurb (The prototype - 17008) was refurbished in 1999. Although because of various things the train did not make it's first run on the mainline in it's refurbished condition until 2002. Then it was about another year - 18 months before they did the first of the "production" refurbs.
