Kings Ferry are withdrawing their commuter services after December 24th..........
******
A message from Ian Fraser, Managing Director – South East Region It is with much regret that I have to inform you The Kings Ferry commuter service will cease operating on Friday 24 December.
This has been an incredibly difficult decision to make and has not been taken lightly. The ongoing challenges created by COVID 19 have reduced demand to such an extent that means our services are not commercially viable and unlikely to become so in the near future.
There are no current plans to reinstate the service however we will continue to monitor travel patterns and if circumstances change in the future we will look at ways to reintroduce our commuter services.
I would like to thank all our customers past and present for their support over the last almost 40 years, it has been a pleasure transporting you to and from London on a daily basis.
Yours,
Ian Fraser
Managing Director – South East Region

Noticed some gaps in services from FW, JE , X and S today. Think the unmentionable apart from on the dedicated thread is starting to impact on services now. Staff shortages will probably get worse in the next few weeks

I'm not at all sure that the Mayor/TfL can decide to do this. The extended hours were ordered by the DfT. The Mayor promised to remove the morning restrictions on Freedom Passes during his election campaign. It's not happening.

Removing the evening charge to support hospitality but at the same encouraging people to walk and use public transport whilst simultaneously not leading a car lead recovery. Just seems like it will support Ubers and other minivans rather than public transport. If they wanted to support key workers in the zone they could extend out the discount to certain areas listed hospital staff, police staff or firefighters providing they provide an authorised ID from their workplace for their discount.

Someone at TFL has probably realised that if you force everyone onto a botched public transport system they'll just opt to not travel instead and therefore make the economy suffer, while if you allow cars in people make the effort to come in and spend money in the central area. The weekday hours seem to fit in very well with a day out where you can drive in, park the car in the morning, spend the day in Central London and then leave in the evening. I think until public transport is sorted out people realistically will stick to cars where possible.

Parking prices in central London are obscene, it’s still significantly cheaper to use public transport and that is what TfL should be promoting. TfL is still getting a share of the business rates whether they spend in central London or locally but the key difference would be forcing people onto public transport to raise additional revenue.

However you also need to remember people are willing to pay for convenience too. If you try to force people onto something then people aren't going to be happy, you need to give them a choice and persuade them towards the preferable choice. If you're a family of 5 and want a day out, chance are the parking will still be cheaper.

Not just central London, was pretty miffed being charged £6 at Westfield Stratford for 90 mins when I got my jab. Would have been half the price if I used trains or buses.

Would say that's quite a good price for Stratford, usually when I'm in a group I always drive to Westfield as the parking charge tends to work out a lot cheaper than if everyone used the train or bus. Not to mention the added convenience. It did make me realise the other day dragging all my shopping home on the 262 that I'd have probably rather paid the slight extra rather than going through all the misery the bus put me through with the ridiculous traffic, regulation and overcrowding. Do agree though that if I'm staying for more than an hour by myself and not doing much shopping there it's better to use public transport.
