I've been resisting asking this question for over a week, so I'll put it in statement form:
I sincerely hope TfL put extras on for Notting Hill carnival over the bank holiday weekend. Routes around the area struggled in 2019 and with event postponed for 3 years, I can see record level attendance for 2022.
Don't understand why they get extra Tube staff to help with crowd control, but extra buses (2X, 36X, 205X) to help disperse crowds aren't held in the same high regard.
And before anyone wants to cite Super Broke: by Tfl; public safety should, within reason, take a much greater standing than financial prudence.

In the era we're in, I'll take something over nothing! 😅 TfL by their own doing [in the past] have made Notting Hill Gate and Harrow Road, Elgin Avenue bus hubs for onwards travel. In part it's because the extras are concentrated there, but it's mostly due to Notting Hill Gate & Westbourne Park Stations closed to entrants come kick out time. The 36X is welcome and a rational choice given the lack of Tube choices in the Camberwell and Peckham areas. It's a shame the Bayswater corridor isn't seeing any enhancements. Back in the day when the 390 went there, it really helped to clear crowds.

What tender result took you by surprise the most? For me I got two. 1. 481 being awarded double deckers 2. Arriva (Tellings Golden Miller) winning the E10 Route 109/N109 to Abellio. A proper jaw dropping moment for me. I think this was the moment that Abellio became a big competitor to other operators when they won this route. Route 133/N133 to Arriva back in 2010, operating from Norwood.

I work in the McDonalds closest to the carnival and the Notting hill branch is closed whilst route 9, 49 and 70 are on strike Please pray for me haha

Two of which are on the line of route Because tenders aren't based on how many garages from one operator you run pass. Abellio were bidding at cheap rates back then and presumably managed to undercut Arriva at the time even with the advantage of four depots. As I predicted at the time, the service hasn't worsened since switching operator and Abellio have successfully managed to retain the 109 since

I have noticed during the current Selborne Road diversion in Walthamstow that some W12 drivers are diverting via Queens Road (not served by buses) instead of the instructed diversion via Lea Bridge Road. I am surprised this is not the formal diversion as when the WC station underpass was being built many years ago buses regularly diverted through Queens Road. Separately, in the previous Hoe Street closure diversion last week, I noticed some drivers on routes like 97 diverting via Church Hill instead of the instructed Selborne Road-Markhouse Road route. Are drivers freestyling at their own risk or do they get clearance?

I wonder if we’ll be seeing these in London anytime soon, it seems as though these new buses will have a redesigned body.

By soon, I meant if we will be seeing them from late 2023, or whether operators will keep ordering the BYD/ADL DD’s for a while. perhaps with the odd demonstrator or two.

What happened with Easylink? All I know about them is that they went bust and were absolutely abysmal at operating TfL routes, but what routes did they run and why did they go bust?
