They use similar technology in that both E400H and NRM are serial hybrids, so only the electric engine powers the driveline. The electricity to power the electric motor comes from a generator attached to the diesel engine and also from the battery. The diesel engine can charge the battery and the battery is also charged through re-generative braking, at least on newer models.
As busoccultation states the NRM uses the Siemens ELFA II hybrid system, while the E400 generally uses the BAE Systems Hybridrive which I think have important differences. I prefer the BAE Systems Hybridrive system, but no doubt there will be plenty other who prefer the Siemens system. I say the E400H generally uses the BAE system because it is possible to have the E400H body on the Volvo parallel hybrid system chassis.
Thank you! Does the NRM batteries differ to the E40H one as they usually stay in electric mode a lot longer whereas the BAE ones only mean the engine cuts out for brief moments. This is observation is just from my experience so correct me if I’m wrong. I am not sure I would agree with that observation, but the systems are different, even if the principles are the same. The length of time for electric mode running will depend on several factors including battery capacity and to what extent the battery is charged. The NRM batteries are different to those on a E40H not just in terms of capacity, but charging times and chemistry. For example the latest E40H can be specified with ultracapacitors to act as the battery.

Driver of VLA57 on the 690 has not stopped at 2 stops at Herne Hill even though I was clearly indicating that I wanted to get on at both of them! This is getting very annoying and the driver got nowhere quicker to the garage as the lights at Tulse Hill stopped them 😡

Driver of a 130 this lunchtime pulled away from a bus stop as I was about to overtake him. He was indicating left, even as he pulled away!

Only way really to stop the issue is to report the drivers not stopping. After I reported those who failed to stop, they did start stopping for me without problem, apart from one afternoon when a driver demanded to know why I kept getting his bus and not the 251, in response I just said '251 doesn't go Southgate' and with that the driver just ignored me and carried on driving.

Sounds annoying, I remember a few years back I was waiting 20 MINUTES FOR A 143, only for the driver to change the blind to East Finchley Schools at the last minute, nothing came through radio about it and it was ridiculous as well as being at 6pm.

Anyone got a clue what this TfL tweet is about? An electric bus fitted with "air purifying plants"? Seems to be doing a tour in Outer / Central London over this weekend (21/22 July).

snoggle not a clue what their marketing departament has thought of this time 🤔 I wonder if it is one of the new rechargeable Volvos that have landed at Peckham? I assume there is another way of giving them a charge other than via a pantograph. What would allow them to move about plus they have an engine anyway. I assume it will cross from Bexley to Ilford via the Dartford Crossing or Woolwich Ferry. Otherwise I am struggling as to what electric vehicle it could be given nothing new is due. The Yutong single decker is hardly revolutionary and we aren't expecting the new ADL / BYD or Optare deckers for Metroline for months.

I assume it will cross from Bexley to Ilford via the Dartford Crossing or Woolwich Ferry. Seeing that there are two VHP's can be used, so I'd assume that one of them will be used in Bexleyheath and store there overnight at BX and other will be used in Ilford and store there overnight at RR, so part of me thinking that GAL will be involved as well.

My guess is that they have taken some of the air purifying plants and stuck them on the roof of a bus. There was talk about these plants being positioned at bus stops, see the link below.
