8 years, there was 2 derailments. In 6 years there has been 2 derailments. As a born and bred Croydoner, Tramlink was better pre TfL. Is that your only prequalifier as I'm sure there's several reasons why its better i.e maintained at a better rate and saving money on other costs now the derailments they could have been problems caused by the age of the rails or even damage caused by a third party (pedestrian or car driver). Mod hat on Please can you qualify your statements with evidence or more information in future as to stop any queries / tension on the forum. thanking you.

Well the facts as to the causes will be set out in the RAIB reports into each accident. I have not read all of them and the search results may include non Tramlink incidents but I think it is only sensible that when dealing with accidents and their causes that we all resort to the facts. I will be astonished if any of the reports identify the system's ownership structure as a root cause in any of the incidents. I still fail to see how relying on one single aspect of Tramlink's performance is in any way indicative of any wider picture or the impact of different owners. Life is more nuanced than just making judgements on a single criteria.

There were plenty of incidents when Tramlink was first introduced including a few people who died under Tram wheels - l may not be a born & bred 'Croydoner' but I've rode it squillions of times and there is no difference between pre TfL & post TfL.

I was in Croydon yesterday and hoped to ride a new Stadler tram. I unwisely left it til around 7.30pm and none came to West Croydon for over 1/2 an hour. I then gave up and took a traditional tram out of town. I am prepared that they may mostly run just Mon-Sat daytime services so can take care with my itinerary there in future.

There was one in the evening on the 3 heading towards Wimbledon as I snapped, most probably not long before 7pm.

They are assigned to Route 4 but do operate other routes- route 4 only runs Mon-Sat up to about 7pm. Regularly see them on other routes though.
