I was on a bus last night and the iBus was displaying "SHOW ME THE WAY TO GET HOME". It then showed "WAVE AND SMILE", "ARE WE THERE YET?" and "ARE WE HOME YET?" However, the audio was in perfect working order for the route. Is this something the driver is able to do, or has some rogue hacked into the system ;D.

I have had "Seats are available upstairs" while on an e200 Dart on the 233, do they want me to sit on the roof ;D Yeah, that's the driver having a laugh. I've done it myself on the 314s; all the old dears laughed and said it'd be a bit cold up there! I was on a bus last night and the iBus was displaying "SHOW ME THE WAY TO GET HOME". It then showed "WAVE AND SMILE", "ARE WE THERE YET?" and "ARE WE HOME YET?" However, the audio was in perfect working order for the route. I was on a N119 in late September this year and had this message scrolling along. 'POLICE ON THE WAY TO REMOVE THE 3 PASSENGERS WITH INVALID PASSES' Beaver told me the driver forgot to delete the message so it seems drivers can leave messages. Paul im sure you'll have loads of fun with it if you can

This should be used on all packed buses (with kids) during the school run! I'd really like to see more of that. ;D

Would be funny but if drivers can do it im sure a keypad comes up on the screen and then they have to touch each letter they want which i imagine is very time consuming. Night drivers probably do it often as they usually have loads of time and not that much to worry about.

Perhaps I'm reading my time card wrong then..12 minutes from BX Garage to the old Police Station the OTHER side of Shooter's Hill isn't loads of time in my book The Police one was probably Centrecom sending a message. I certainly haven't found out how to do this.

lc1 i assumed night drivers are more relaxed compared to day drivers as the roads are usually quieter etc and i thought maybe the timetables were more relaxed.

Yeah that's what a lot of people think.
Yes there's less traffic (apart from Friday and Saturday) and to counter that there's also less time...especially now they keep lowering the speed limits on the roads.

Im with lc1 on this, The night buses actually get less time than they should have, just take the 321, which overnight gets 28 mins to do Foots Cray to NX, which is doable, if you dont pick anyone up. Baring in mind all the roads are 30mph roads as well, some with enforcement Cameras. The N21 timings are a lot better now theyve changed them, though i havent experienced an N21 at the weekend yet, ive heard they're quite busy.
The N89 is no different. During the week its not too bad as the majority of the runs are quiet with you picking up regular passengers, the only really busy ones are the last two up to town. At the Weekend its a different Kettle'o' fish, the route is very busy and suffers bad from late running. Last Night was no exception, i left Trafalgar Sq (TSQ) 6 late on my first trip due to traffic and arrived at Erith 38 mins late. My leader gets run light out of erith and the one behind is also about 20 late, so i get asked to run it in service to TSQ, then depart there around 4 am or thereabouts showing BX Garage. Still finished on time though!

lc1 i assumed night drivers are more relaxed compared to day drivers as the roads are usually quieter etc and i thought maybe the timetables were more relaxed. They really aren't, on some routes the buses get up to 50mph and still struggle to keep time. I did the N89 on a weekend once with PVL8 and it was rammed out, picking up lots of people between London and New Cross. In the end it terminated early at BX. We were told it was going to do this in the Shooters Hill area, literally seconds after a lightly loaded Erith bus flew past us. From experience, other routes requiring some fast driving include the N3 (Palace - Bromley only), N87, 176, N279, N13, N15, N9, N136. Every route has its fair share of fast drivers. Had E48 on the N89 the other week and the driver was bombing it along Old Kent Road. Painfully slow routes include the N3 (Oxford Circus - Palace), N21, N63, 266 and any high frequency night route where the buses struggle to stay apart. One driver on the 63 told me that PM drivers have been instructed not to go above 20mph and judging my travels, this extends to the N63.

I have had "Seats are available upstairs" while on an e200 Dart on the 233, do they want me to sit on the roof ;D I did that on a 165 (single deck route) at Elm Park one night - the resulting glare meant I didn't look in the mirror for a while ;D With regards to these extra messages - I've certainly never seen or heard of ways to do it... Can anyone shed any light on this?
