Im looking forward to the upcoming elections. I think its highly possible Labour will lose to the Conservatives. I personally think Labour have been quite bad (i wouldnt say disastrous), especially when it comes to subjects such as the economy and immigration. I really would like the Conservatives to win the next election. BUT there is one thing I am concerned about - Transport! I think Labour have been reasonably good when it comes to transport, especially when they had to pick up the pieces after the Conservatives. I believe transport has improved since the millenium (and before) with labour.
The Conservatives have not exactly had a good history with transport, and I think they have been a bunch of snobs towards it. Remember the ALLEGED comments from Maggie Thatcher? - "A man who, beyond the age of 26, finds himself on a bus can count himself as a failure. ". I find that quite a snobbish and sexist thing to say. If the Conservatives come to power, they say they will get rid of Quality Contracts (basically similar to the London contract method). These contracts have greatly improved individual bus routes, and in some cases, networks. Getting rid of these contracts would be the wrong way to go.
So, what does everyone else think about the Conservatives and if they come to power?
EDIT: I think I got confused between Quality Contracts and Quality Bus Partnerships (QBPs), sorry! Quality Contracts are under threat from the Conservatives, but there are not any examples of Quality Contracts outside London yet. Quality Bus Partnerships may be under threat from the Tory gov. aswell

I think that you have already touched on the many bad points of a tory government and the damage that they have done to public transport during their time in power - I must admit I fear the worst. I managed to see their stupidity from the front line myself when the railways were getting privatised. I remember my dad always talking about the fear of what company would come in for the GER. Then he came back and said it was First in 1997/98 My views on the whole subject is simple, who ever gets into power will still make a tremendous cock up of this country Labour's economic ideals may not have been brilliant, but then what's the other choice? The exact opposite of that with the Tories. Lack of spending on lower class/income needs, higher taxes on the lower incomes, more benefits for their "friends", the upper class. What this country needs to maybe get them both to realise that they're failures is the very real possibility of a hung Parliament

Quality Bus Partnerships may be under threat from the Tory gov. aswell Whilst there have been some improvements costs have run out of all control. The current cost of subsidising just TfL amounts to over £350 per annum and TfL is currently in debt as well Clearly the cost issues of TfL have to be addressed and they have to get lower costs and beter services from the operating companies

The Tories:
Government of the rich, by the rich, for the rich.
Enough said.
I think transport and ANY public services (that rich people generally do not use) will suffer.

Because it is (and this applies to ALL governments, regardless of their political hue) made forgetting that the government of the day governs ALL people, even those who did NOT vote for them, even if at all. If you want to make cheap political statements, at least get your FACTS correct. ;D

No doubt you can see Im against the Tories but everyone is entitled to their opinion in a democracy, and I understand your point that some people may not have voted in favour for a certain party, but that is my oppinion and I do not mean any offence to the nation (voters). Their policies (perhaps not all, but mostly) are undoubtably aimed at saving or making money for the establishment and ricjer people of the country either now or in the long run. Hence public service (normal/non rich tory people's services that Tory people do not generally use- no offence) cuts and privatisation, both planned and past. (British Rail, British Airways, British Gas, CEGB, British Coal Board, Coal Mines, British Leyland, National Health Service, Royal Mail)<-- They are facts btw. I do not want to get into a political debate and I mean no offence to any one person, either here or in general. That is my opinion, take it or leave it.

TBH, couldn't care who would get in as long as it's not the Big Nutters Party or the Green Party (fat chance of the second one happening) because on the evidence of each party, they haven't really come up with proper policies which would entice people to vote. The main thing is Lord Adonis loses his Transport minister post, just dont like him based on his continued dodging of every question put to him. Yes, I know a lot of MP's do it but he just seems to do it every single time.

Largely because the Tories always follow a high spending Labour government that has bankrupted the country, so there is no money left to spend! Make no mistake, whoever gets into government in May will have to make enourmous cuts due the absolutely catastrophic financial management of Gordon Brown and the Labour government. Any projects that do go ahead will be PFI projects, like the modernisation of the Underground which is not proving a huge success, so while were not paying for them now, we are saddling ourselves with a ridiculous amount of debt that will have to be paid off a couple of decades in the future.
