TfL began installing step-free access at six underground stations in 2009.
It later cancelled the projects after costly preparations due to it's financial difiiculties

if they didnt waste on that it would of been wasted elsewhere. you have to blame this new european laws on Disabilty which causes these waste of money issues its not always the fault of TFL if they are following rules to comply with law then realise the actual area is not viable or able to be converted.

I totally agree. Add to that the cost of making EVERY bus in London (and the entire country sooner or later) DDA compliant with extending ramps, interior space in the vehicle and so on. I tried an FOI request to see what the take up was, but they CLAIM that the information is not recorded. I don't believe a word of it, but cannot disprove it. Drivers on this forum have said there IS a button on the Wafarer ticket machine, but also indicated they rarely use it as the travel for DDA clients is free anyway. In reality, the DDA compliancy has been hijacked by lazy 'buggy mums'. Perhaps the DDA should be ammended, having spent all that money, in making access to a wheelchair user LEGALLY enforceable over buggy occupants?

The buggy squad really are a pain, more so at around 08:45-09:10............bye bye kiddies, hello shopping Makes my bus take longer to get to Romford to get the train to uni. Must admit though, the few disabled passengers that i have seen, have normally been very polite and thankful to the driver. Chances are that's because they've been waiting for half an hour for a free space
