I worked in Tescos a long time ago and hated it, Since then I haven't worked in retail. I'm a part time coach driver and i appreciate how hard those jobs are however - i've seen platform staff have to deal with drunks and for me the main difference between a store and a job like that is large stores have help. Its very different on a bus/coach or train. The larger stores are able to pay for their help, it's the smaller ones that have trouble. I worked at The Entertainer in Romford on the Brewery Shooping complex and we used to have to share security with everyone there, which included the cinema, bowling alley and other shops. Needless to say, we dealt with most of the problems on our own.

Boxing Day, Jan 2, 3 and a couple of days in February, according to LBC this evening... It's only ASLEF drivers who are striking, and not the RMT who make up the majority. I pity them, they only make £45,400 per annum, the poor dears

I'm sure any bus drivers that work will get double pay and a day in lieu.

The only thing that I can say for sure on this matter is , that on Boxing Day best get out and home early if using buses, because if LUL do strike - d*mn its going to get busy on the buses , will extra buses be made available ? . That is of course if the bus drivers needed to cover the extra buses want to work !

I am pretty sure there was a strike last year and it had no effect as most of LUL was still running. A bit extra but not double for me, although we can 'sell back' our day in lieu to make a bit more Is it right that the Tube boys want triple pay for Boxing Day?

Apparently so. But reading between the lines I don't think they really want to work at all so are making unrealistic demands. The tube used to run a skeleton service on boxing day with volunteers, now they want a full Saturday service.

Is it right that the Tube boys want triple pay for Boxing Day? As daveb0789 says, not really no. I'm in ASLEF, and like all my ASLEF colleagues, we've been left scratching our heads trying to work out what the Union leadership are playing at. We never took part in a ballot for 4 days action - as far as we were concerned we were voting to take action only on Boxing day. And as for the extra pay etc.... The only grievance we have is that up to a few years ago most depots worked a rotational system whereby a whole depot was guaranteed a given year off, and the train service provided ensured that every driver only had to work one in four. Last year they tried to run a full Sunday service on all lines. This year they're effectively trying the same thing but are claiming to have reduced the service......still looks like a full Sunday service to me. My own personal point that I'd like to add is this is being driven purely by the retail sector. It is their desire to open shops on Boxing day that is fuelling the the increased train service - why can't the shops have a two day break and give everyone more time with their families? Why is there such a desire to get everything back open so soon? It'll be Christmas day under attack next - and by the retail sector as well as LU!! EDIT: And the buses ain't faring much better these days either. I can remember, admittedly some years ago now, when I worked for Stagecoach at Upton Park - I volunteered to work a Boxing day and was allocated one of the two buses working on the 262's & providing a half hourly service from Stratford to Beckton District centre (I don't think it's called that anymore....). Those were the days when only the main routes ran, and even then not always over their full route (as in my 262 example). The frequencies were vastly reduced and it was all voluntary. Them days are long gone now of course....

Im scheduled to work xmas eve and boxing day. I know I get paid extra for working boxing day but if I had it my way then I wouldn't work any day during the xmas period! I still remember the old boxing days when transport was lightly used and many shops closed.
I like to add that I have been out shopping on boxing day once in croydon but I never do it again. The amount of people shopping was extreme!

Let's also not forget they are very few if any national rail services on boxing day and they aren't deemed to be on strike.
