Hi all...
Thought I'll make this thread and talk about buses in Ireland but mainly focus on the Dublin Bus Fleet and it's history fleet.
I'm sure that some of you guys on this forum had/have travelled on Dublin Bus over the years as I was a regular user. There main chassis I'd say would be Volvo. The bus that you'd wouldn't see in Europe that caught my eye was a Volvo Enviro 500 (Tri-Axle), when I was in Dublin during 2009 Summer season, on the 46A in O'Connell Street. To my knowledge Dublin Bus ordered about 70 Enviro 500, 50 in Philsboro Garage and 20 in Donnybrook Garage.

The main type is Volvo as every batch on the ALX400 body is a B7TL, except one batch which were ordered on the Trident chassis I believe due to trials. They also have B7LA's Wright Fusions which will be withdrawn shortly and Dublin Bus has started inviting tenders for them, plus they had some B10L's on the Ultra body. They also have the B9TL Enviro 400's, 500's & Geminis plus some surviving Volvo Olympians. In fact looking at my analysis, you might as well say the entire fleet is Volvo apart from the Tridents. 2 interesting pieces of info on Dublin Bus They were thinking of ordering DAF DB250's as they trialled one of Arriva London's T FGN DLA's (might be 124 or 125) They have the very last built ALX400's, delivered in 2007, although I don't think they are the last B7TL's built as Bluestar has an 07 reg Enviro 400 B7TL, the only one built.

Really a DAF DB250 chassis, that definite news to me. I've heard the DB also trailed out at the MCW MetroBus from England back in the 1980s which I have a model in my room, but didn't think it went to plan as DB brought 365 (366 as one KD went to Baghdad for some ubnormal reason) Bombariders which got withdrawn from service in 2000. I would refer the Bombarider louder then Volvo B7TLs even with the fan on but they were enjoyable to ride and listen to when the rev or when there in kickdown.

Yeah there is a pic of it on O'Connell Street, think next to the Post Office. I've only been their the once and during my week, I sampled some of the buses. I can't remember the name of the place (Arnhem or something) I stayed but the 20B terminates their and I had a few rides on the B7TL, went on some Volvo Olympians including on the 13 & 27 right up to the Harristown depot. Also went on the Enviro 500's and they are brilliant vehicles, as they were earlier B9TL's, they sound just like B7TL's but without the B7TL whine. I'm hoping to take a trip their probably next year for some filming

I'm hoping to take a trip their probably next year for some filming I'm actually going there this October during the half term and try get some of the RV's during service before the last of the olympian family gets withdrawn. It be most likely to be on the 16A but it's normally B7TL, as it is cheaper then the 747 and 748 into the city. I hadn't riden on the Enviro 500s yet, but trying to make my first debut to them on the 46A might do a double journey there and back lool. I've been on some routes in Dublin North and South. Done the 78A many of times from Aston Quay to Neilstown. So i'm hoping to get as many videos as possible. (Havn't been on the 8 though.. loool ) But the fares are just too expensive as it's usually for me €1.85 and some times €2 flat from the city depends on were ever your going really as you have to state the stop etc.

When do the remaining Volvo Olympians get withdrawn? The 46A is a really long route and travels along a lot of dual carriageway. I need to dig out my road map of Dublin which also contains all the bus routes. Basically a Bus Map and a proper A-Z mixed into 1 Is it 1.85 now, wow it was 1.35 when I went back in 2006-7 . Prices seem to gone up quite a bit over there. I was thinking its probably 1.50 now. You also need exact fare Hopefully you'll get some gd vids, drop me a message either through PM or youtube. The Volvo's will be a bugger to film, they always are wherever I go ;D

The Volvo's will be a bugger to film. Yep. €1.85. But like I said it depends on were you're going really. It would be best just to get a 7 day travel card, it would definitely save time going through your wallet looking for small change. TBH with yeah you don't exactly need the exact change as I've put in a €2 coin and I got a €0.15 refund and you have to go to headquaters in O'Connell Street to get the refund. I got €1 out of them Lool.. So you could imagine how many bus journeys I did. You can also get the 77A from Eden Quay to Tallaght or the 78A to Ballyfermot and get the 76A (From Ballyfermot) to Tallaght, but i'd suggest taking the 77A as its just a one journey but if you don't mind spending a few extra..Lool.. or the 76A as it terminates at The Square. Erm, Dublin Bus have withdrawn half of the Volvo Olympian batch already as they did say they should be gone by early 2011. As theres only 119 in service at the moment. Harristown with 30 RVs so you'd be more likely to get one in the Harristown area. As for the Dennis Tridents Dublin Bus has only brought 10 for Harristown Garage also. Last time I was there they were on Route 10. From my point of view, O'Connell Street, Parnell Square (East & West), Aston Quay, Heuston, College Green and Lower Abbey Street (Bus Terminus) would be the best places to do an observation as theres plenty of buses going around. I've also forgot about their Volvo B6BLE which I quite enjoy riding, thats if you've ridden on the 123 from Marino.

Its much quicker though to get the LUAS to Tallaght, also cleaner and smarter than Croydon Tramlink ;D Yeah the Tridents were on the 10 as well back then. I also saw the B6BLE's on the 123 but wasn't particularly interested them. I wonder whats going on the 4 once the Fusions are withdrawn. I see Harristown is the one being dumped with the Olympians, is the depot still open air as it was when I was there.

Not to sure, as I was taken to Broadstone Garage when I was young with me uncle as he did the visit hoping to get another garage visit when I go over... hehe... I do prefer the LUAS then the Croydon Tramlink lool... I don't think the Articulated buses made a great debut to Dublin as it only had two doors, I wonder how there were operated as they only use front door over there. Probs Dennis Dart Enviro 200 as Bus Eireann has ordered a few and some are in service already... DB also trailed out a Scania Omnicity too.

Dublin bus is looking to order 174 new buses (12 single and 95 two-axle double decks and 65 tri-axle double decks) for 2012 delivery (subject to funding) According to the press releases few weeks back 12 years old has been deemed the optimum replacement age (point where repairs etc start to exceed replacement equivalent cost). I wonder if 12 years old would apply is similar urban London. www.etenders.gov.ie/search/show/search_view.aspx?ID=JUN228035&catID=22

Sorry to bump this up.
But i've heard that Dublin Bus has withdrawn Route 78A and made the 40 run from Finglas to Liffey Valley. Which seems to be a bit of a journey. Which the 40 used to run from Parnell Street. So now its a cross city route.
