Senior staff from Veolia Transport Cymru met with most Councils in South Wales in February to discuss the future of the business and are undertaking a review at present. The outcome of this review is at present unknown.
What is know as there have been ongoing problems with the services provided by this company and it recently had a £30,000 fine imposed on it as well as having is disks dramticaly reduced. It also had to submit to the traffic commisioners a full list of the buses it would be operating. It has also to submit its bus for independent testing as there have also been major maintainance issues with the companies vehicles

Would be rather ironic if Veolia starts selling bus Operators, maybe London Sovereign would come up for sale

Know facts are that Veolia have had many complaints and a number of services have been taken away from them. They have also had strong action taken by the traffic commisioners. Also most of their Newport contracts are up for retender in July. I suspect they may loose most of them another problem is that in a couple of years all school buses will have to have seat belts

Not much detail at present other then they are restructuring and are looking at the depots individually
The head of a major bus company says he is looking at "restructuring" in Wales as one council seeks talks on the future of its services.
John O'Brien, chief executive of Veolia Transport, says it is looking at its viability on a depot by depot basis.
The firm employs 450 people in Wales and staff are being kept informed, he said.
Rhondda Cynon Taf council said it was seeking an update on the firm's plans and the potential impact on services.
It has depots in mid and south Wales, at Crossgates near Llandrindod Wells, Abercrave and Penclawdd in Swansea, Treforest and Newport.
Due to the high level of competition in the market the firm needed to come up with a fresh business model, he said.
On the Penclawdd depot Mr O'Brien said the company had received notice of termination of its service from Swansea council.
This affected a number of routes, but he could not give any figures

Still trying to get confirmation This has been the case for a while ... they tried palming it off on RATP ... but they politely declined They seem to have lot the only profitable part in South Wales. They have lost the National express contract. It is not clear why but it appears National express took the contract back probably due to poor performance. Edwards Travel now have the contract There are various rumours about garage closures and redundancy notices being issued. It appears that the new parent company Veolia Transdev is not prepared to continue to bail out Veolia Wales. Nearly all their service are council contracts so I suspect that Veolia Trandev will continue to fund them untill they can be retendered.

I have a few extracts from the VOSA court case with them last year. It does not make good reading. How an earth they were allowed to continue operating beats me. The VOSA inspectors inspected 28 buses and immediatly but prohibition orders on 14 of them so 50% of the buses they inspected were unroadworthy. The probabilty is that similar results would be obtained across their South Wales fleet. This was in spite of the VOSA inspectors saying they had a state of the art workshop
It seems to indicate to me that the legislation is far to lax.
BUSES and coaches riddled with faults were allowed out onto South Wales South Wales roads by a major transport operator, a public inquiry has heard.
Veolia Transport, in charge of local bus and National Express services, ran damaged vehicles which, in one instance, left the brake lining worn down "metal to metal".
Veolia said it was battling a culture of non-compliance after buy-outs of smaller operations, including Shamrock Travel, in 2006.
VOSA visited Veolia depots in Llandough and Treforest earlier this year, after numerous complaints from the public.
They found examples of damage that rendered some vehicles unroadworthy, despite being deemed safe by Veolia's own maintenance team barely a week before.
The inquiry was told a range of "long-standing defects" were found, ranging from lamps that did not work to visible rear brake hoses.
VOSA inspector Steve Cook inspected Veolia's fleet at its Treforest Industrial Estate depot, near Nantgarw, on June 9 and 20.
He gave half of the 28 vehicles he inspected "prohibition orders" because of faults and said one bus with worn suspension and an oil leak was overdue an inspection by the firm.
He said: "If the inspection had been carried out at the right time, the vehicle's defects would have been noticed and corrected."
The inquiry, at Cardiff Magistrates' Court, also heard from bus compliance officer Sian Thomas, who had given Veolia services an 82% punctuality rate between February and April - 13% below the 95% industry guideline. The services observed were the 400, 100, 12, 12A and 13 buses in the Pontypridd area, which were sometimes late, failed to operate or displayed the incorrect destination.
Richard Hall, Veolia operations manager at the time and now managing director of Arriva Scotland, blamed the staff culture inherited from acquisitions of smaller companies for the problems.
He said: "When I came in, Veolia wanted to re-enter the UK market with acquisitions of small, independent and quality operations.
"The first of those was Bebb TravelBebb Travel, part of Veolia Transportation, is a small Welsh bus and coach operator that operates local bus routes. The company also operates coaches on behalf of National Express.
The inquiry was told how the lack of maintenance came in spite of a state-of-the-art workshop at the pounds 3m Treforest depot.
Mr Hall said: "Treforest was an amalgamation of Shamrock at Barry and Abercynon, and Bebb Travel at Llantwit Fardre.
"There was huge animosity between depot staff, even between the same staff."
Traffic commissioner Nick Jones said of checks being made on vehicles: "It is not glamorous, but it is the cornerstone to efficient, safe operations.
"It is clear from the submissions, management need to address that."
Inspections found a range of 'long-standing defects' on Veolia buses in South Wales, rendering some unroadworthy

The rumours of Veolia closing down all their UK bus services is probably correct. Outside of Wales they dont have much of a presence and even in Wales it is a random collection of mainly low frequency routes scattered about all over the place.
The loss of the National Express contract would have been a further blow as that was probably the only profitable part of the business futher problems are that they have a ramshackled fleet of buses mainly in poor condition.
So far there has been no further news. The Newport services they operate have contracts expiring in July so there should be some news on these inthe next couple of months. Even if they bid for them I would expect them to loose most if not all on the basis of their poor performance & of course their future is very uncertain as well
