Wow I was actually right for a change! I posted about this the other day in the Metroline thread 😁 Presumably will be looking at a short notice registration, as the LSP guidance generally wants 3 months notice (section 5.2). As per section 5.3 TfL will normally issue the LSP every second Friday content.tfl.gov.uk/lsp-explanatory-note.pdfNot sure if application has been made yet, but it appears page was last updated 31st Jan which suggests new LSP should (in theory) be published today. If it does proposed timetable etc will appear in the have your say haveyoursay.tfl.gov.uk/london-service-permit-consultationsAs neither St Albans or Potter Bar are in London it won’t need a LSP.

Sorry, was thinking of existing 84 which has a section in Barnet which needs LSP

Hearing that Sullivan Buses are taking over the 84, no further details than that ie route structure, frequencies or vehicles The Facebook post from Dean noted "TFL had staff counting passengers between PB & Barnet last week". They may be developing options.

Hearing that Sullivan Buses are taking over the 84, no further details than that ie route structure, frequencies or vehicles Dean Sullivan has confirmed this on his facebook group. St Albans to Potters Bar only at roughly the same frequencies as now. It's fantastic that the frequencies are kept the same and the heart of the route is preserved and whilst the Barnet to PB section is withdrawn there are viable options of travelling to that section. Will Sullivan's inherit Metroline's buses or do they have enough of their own?

If they really do struggle I'm sure an E or DS could be converted for regional operation.

Sullivan's can manage a half-hourly frequency with 4 vehicles, although they will probably need an extra vehicle if current provision for schools is maintained.

Perhaps when the JFS contracts end in September some of the Es can move over to the 84. For now it could perhaps be covered by older stuff like TPLs and ELVs?

The map they have shared, does show that the school trips will be maintained. I would imagine they are Herts supported trips.

The 84 is the sole link between Potters Bar & Barnet - in order to do reliably over a week without the 84, you need to take the 298 & then the 307 which is considerably a lot more hassle. The 399 doesn’t run enough to be a legitimate alternative

The 399 doesn’t run enough to be a legitimate alternative Plus I'm a general believer on here that the 234 would be a good option because I don't imagine everyone driving up the A1000 suddenly disembarks at The Spires or St Albans Road, there is definitely demand from south of Barnet to north of Potters Bar. Perhaps running an every 20 minute 234 from Hampstead Heath/Finchley Road O2 Centre to Barnet The Spires route and then having an overlap of maybe a 234A from Muswell Hill to Potters Bar also running every 20 minutes with an x10 service between Muswell Hill & Barnet The Spires to sustain capacity.

With all due respect, you can’t ask for a fares rise but then equally ask for a more expensive extension in the 234 when a 383 extension would be far more economical and probably match demand on that section

Given that the Barnet - Potters Bar section had been route 134 until 1983, with route 234 later replacing route 134 to Barnet, route 234 would be good. It would restore the Muswell Hill - Potters Bar service.

Sullivan Buses has released a map of their planned 84 route. Of note is that the route will operate an anti-clockwise one way loop around Potters Bar via Mutton Lane, High Street, Darkes Lane and the Station. There will also be school journeys to and from St Albans Girls School and Townsend School.A timetable will follow when it has been finalised. Interestingly, the map depicts the route in green, suggesting that the "tradition" of red buses on the 84 may be discontinued. www.sullivanbuses.co.uk/html/sb8latest.htmlwww.sullivanbuses.co.uk/maps/map84.pdf
