Two trains and two buses are to be "wrapped" in Poppy Day livery as part of Transport for London's contribution to Remembrance Day.
TfL is boosting its efforts "to recognise the invaluable contribution of service men and women in London have made in the protection of Greater London and its inhabitants."
More than £200,000 has been approved for a number of measures "communicating this to Londoners and others using the transport network and who may not ordinarily be aware of the sacrifices made."
Caroline Pidgeon, leader of the Lib Dem group of the London Assembly and of the transport committee, declared it a "brilliant initiative."
A Circle line train, a London Overground train and two buses will carry poppy livery; all Tube, Overground and DLR trains will have a poppy on the front cab.
Announcements at 50 Tube stations will be broadcast by Barbara Windsor bringing attention to Remembrance Day - Sunday 11 November. It marks the signing of Armistice on 11 November 1918 to signal the end of World War One.
It is now a special day set aside to remember all those men and women killed during the two World Wars and other conflicts.
TfL is planning further activities carrying the message: "Proud to support London Poppy Day, our war veterans and their families."
Transport bosses been criticised in the past for not running enough services on Remembrance Sunday to help the thousands attending the national ceremony at the Cenotaph.
More trains will run this year including a full service on the Circle, District and Jubilee lines serving Westminster, nearest station to the ceremony and parade.
Ms Pidgeon said: "This is a brilliant initiative by TfL, which I totally support.
" In complete contrast to previous years London Transport will be playing a key role in ensuring Londoners and visitors to the capital are helped to remember the huge sacrifice made by so many veterans over the years."
The London Transport Old Comrades Association is the only civilian group allowed to lay a wreath at the Cenotaph as well as march alongside the armed forces in the annual Remembrance Sunday Parade.
Since 2008 war veterans now travel free on public transport in the capital as a result of the Mayor's concessionary travel scheme.
Peter Hendy, London’s transport commissioner, said: “We are proud to support London’s poppy day.
From next week our customers will see especially wrapped trains, buses and stations displaying the red poppy as the nation remembers.”
A total of 1500 transport workers perished during both world wars.

I really hope the RM or NB4L is one of them!
