Very good post mredd. If we were to believe rags like the Daily Mail, the majority of people in this country are scrounging scumbags, when in actual fact they are in the minority! If you are unemployed, and really want a job, its not easy to get one. Schemes like this may help reduce the number of unemployed, who are constantly being vilified. I don't know why bankers and tax evaders aren't as vilified as the unemployed, especially considering the burden put on the country's finances by the banks and tax evaders is astronomical in comparison to benefit cheats and the unemployed. i agree. Many people think its the people that done it but its all down to the government that wants to mess things up. If things get useless time for the people to form their own government up and ignore the mainstream establishment. (yes i seen some of it in the making), But its many people that are been brainwashed by the media and they get influenced what to do from the media. So the biggest problem is the politicans and the bankers. But why am i talking about it on a bus forum as LT is my hobby. :/ But truly i do want London Transport to come back. TFL and GLA needs to be abolished. LT should be run by proper people. not by elected clowns like red Ken. Good thing i rarely watched the mainstream media. I rely on the internet because its the wonderful thing to make friends even if its hard to do so in real life. I think you really need to take a history lesson about the creation and management of LT. I think you will find the politicians, national and local, have always had their mits on the organisation in one way or another. The idea that transport in the Capital City of any developed country is outside of political control or influence is just plain daft. And do you really, really want to go back to the 1970s with crappy buses, strikes, shoddy maintenance and services being cut left, right and centre? Or the 1990s under LRT management when everything was cut to the bone, we rode round on minibuses that fell to bits after 2 months of service, service quality was awful and the network resembled some sort of demented patchwork quilt? We can all go dewy eyed about our favourite bus types but the purpose of a transport network is to get people round effectively - for a long while LT did not really do that because it was distracted by poor practices and shoddy service quality. People may have their reasons for disliking TfL but at least we have growing ridership, growing revenue, lots of newish buses and usually pretty decent service performance.

Whilst I applaud the idea, surely, at a time when pay rises are minimal, and new drivers rates fixed for 2 yrs and very low, the companies should be spending the money on it's running costs.

snoggleI would go for the idea how it runs during the 90's. Bus services when i was a child were great till the evil politicians brought in GLA which is successor to GLC. With growing revenue would it get harmed by fare dodgers. I would have dodging fines up to £300 and a criminal record if red handed by CCTV. plus i would allow people sharing annual travelcards as long its from a relative.

You're saying shouldn't live in a democracy and vote people into a role such as mayor and we shouldn't have people legitimately voted in by the public and this people should just be given a job regardless of who thinks they will do a good job? You're suggesting we should live in a dictator state?! Yet more twaddle.
