A new Sunday timetable for the P13 is due from the 22nd with additional running time and other alterations including self drive ferries to and from the garage. I done the P13 once on a Sunday after the new frequencies was implemented. I recall driving a bus from the garage to Streatham but reached there 10 minutes late and I think my leader turned at East Dulwich. It was quite some time ago when I did it but obviously the route is not performing so changes are being made. You would think that if more buses are being introduced to the route then the route would become easier to operate but I guess not This is true. P13 seems to be running a lot worse recently. I now see on a daily occurrence, two successive P13s running together into Streatham Hub. It needs to move to WL in September. It would be better for the scheduling and reliability of the route. My hunch is that the better frequency was achieved on a shoe string budget for the 2 year contract extension. Abellio offered to do it in the cheapest way, no doubt pressured by TfL to keep costs down, and have now found they're struggling. The traffic conditions are not easy on the narrow streets and I wonder if buses are now meeting each other on narrow roads / junctions more often? The other factor is whether patronage has gone up - if it has then buses will take longer. If the timetable has been too tight to allow for the above factors then you'll get a poor service. As Simon says it still has to run to the timetable on Sundays!

Having said that the 3's reliability went downhill for a good while when moved to QB, especially where live changeovers were introduced. Let's hope the lesson is learnt should the P13 move to WL where live changeovers will be reintroduced.

Just as well that they are introducing dual doors variants, which should hopefully pull down delays a bit at bus stops. Regarding the narrow roads, hopefully the longer buses will not present too much additional problems. Mind you, the route is no stranger to longer buses as London Central had used 9.4m LDPs prior to Travel London.

Friday, I was on the P13. I haven't done the route for some time so I was looking forward to it. Got to work and picked up my duty but there was a lack of ferry vehicles so I was late picking up my bus (8020) at Streatham. I was made to run out of service to Tulse Hill. I reached there 15 minutes late but continued to New Cross. I wanted to go in and out of New Cross but was advised not to by the controller who wanted me to leave 15 minutes late so to keep in the window (frequency is every 15 minutes). I waited there for 4 minutes then crawled my way to East Dulwich. I wondered if I should have went straight in and out as I believe I could have made my time. I would have departed New Cross just under 10 minutes late otherwise. Anyway, I got to Underhill Road and for some reason my bus could only do 15 mph up the hill. When I got to the top, the overheating light came on but I continued anyway. When I got to West Dulwich, the bus was now showing 3 sets of lights on the dashboard and the bus was no going any faster than 30 mph. At tulse Hill, the bus was doing 20mph I called Ibus and was told a replacement bus will be at Streatham. The bus wasn't there at Streatham when I got there and obviously, I was running 20 odd minutes late already. Y -reg 8062 was my replacement and was made to go OOS to Peckham and start from there.8062 was a good nippy bus but for some reason I was running 4 minutes late at East Dulwich and could never make my time. Far too many passengers to pick up. I got to Streatham 15 minutes late and only had 45 minutes break so this meant I would leave Streatham 10 minutes later than expected. After my break, I was asked again to run OOS to Peckham and start there. I had 8065 which was even faster than 8062 I think BC are getting to grips with their buses! Was fine upto New Cross and back to Streatham to do the last bus leaving at 2305. Despite have a 4 round job, this trip would be my first trip from Streatham to New Cross going in service I left on time but was 4 minutes late at Streatham Hill due to picking up many passengers. I got to the Palace Road bus stop and was called by Ibus to divert onto Palace Road, West Norwood and Lancaster Avenue due to some incident at Tulse Hill. I made the announcement and some got off but others started moaning. I think all of the passengers were in a joyful mood but one passenger was getting anxious as he wanted to get the last train at Tulse Hill. Nothing wrong with that but when I diverted onto Palace Road, the bell was immediately pressed. I saw one passenger get up from his seat so I said out loud if anyone wants to get off but the passenger who wanted the train immediately replied that no one wants to get off. I got the impression that if I persisted then it might cause some problems so I just carried on. I got to the end of Palace Road but the police stopped up from proceeding for about 5 minutes. When I got onto Norwood Road, I must have counted about 8-9 buses stuck at the closure. I got to West Dulwich 10 minutes late but could never make my time up due to the short running times. The closure was still on when I made my way back towards Streatham and so I had to divert via West Norwood, Crown Pint and Leigham Court Road to Streatham Hill. I made the announcement at the stop after West Dulwich. I made the announcement and 3 passengers got off. But when I diverted onto Lancaster Avenue people started screaming 'Driver where are you going?, You going the wrong way, and are you still going to Streatham?'. After dealing with them all then one passenger started having a go saying that I didn't make the announcement. I replied saying I did and that why some of the passengers got off but this guy was having none of it and kept insisting that I was wrong. I tried to defuse the situation by telling him that he should come off now and walk but it seem to make him even more upset and it look like he was spoiling for a fight. I started to lose my cool and shouted back at him. But it seemed to do the trick as he started getting abusive but suddenly got off the bus. I quickly closed the doors and drove off This job is strange in that you try to be nice and professional yet it doesn't work. Its only when I started biting back then I was able to deal with the situation. Its moments like this when I can appreciate why some drivers show no concern to their passengers

Looks like you had a long day! That diversion you took via Crown Point seems a bit TOO far from the route though. Wouldn't you have been better off dead running?

I agree the diversion via Crown Point sounds excessive. Any reason they could have had you just cross Norwood Road, from Lancaster Avenue into York Hill, and follow the 315 route onto Leigham Court Road?

Any reason they could have had you just cross Norwood Road, from Lancaster Avenue into York Hill, and follow the 315 route onto Leigham Court Road? That would be a great diversion, however with it being proper residential side roads it could make it that much easier to get lost or even stuck down a cul-de-sac...if any, not to mention greater chances of buses approaching head on.

Indeed or even to serve as much route as possible, divert via York Hill, Knollys Road, Leigham Vale & Palace Road.

Thinking about it further, I wonder why they did not divert via Norwood Road northbound then Palace Road, which is what Steve said he did towards New Cross. Even if there was heavy congestion as a result of the closure it could not have taken much longer than the route via Crown Point to Streatham Hill station, but would allow most of the route to be served.

I'm not sure why. When I did this diversion going towards New Cross there was lots of buses just sitting there so I assume that was still the case when I got back. I should of looked to see if the buses were still there, when I made my way back, but I was still upset with the issue I had with that passenger. Thinking about it now, I believe I should have ran direct to Streatham Station going via Streatham Common North but I didn't get the message clear enough from the Ibus control. I remember hearing Knights Hill and Crown Point on the radio. There were many passengers on my bus who all got off between Streatham Hill and Streatham Station so it was a good thing I diverted via Leigham Court Road. Of course, it would have been much better to go via the 315 route but I'm not sure of the actual routing anyway. Also, sorry for the long rant. I didn't realise I said so much lol. I even forgot to mention the near miss with a toddler that ran in front of my bus which forced me onto the central reservation outside The Aylesham Centre in Peckham (heading towards Streatham). There was no collision anyway as I was observant enough to see him but on another day it might of been as it was that close!

The P13 was diverted away from Chadwick Road due to "inconsiderate parking"
Time to re-route again?

The P13 was diverted away from Chadwick Road due to "inconsiderate parking" Time to re-route again? You'd think people would have sense when it comes to parking but as I found out on Saturday on the 249 in Balham, obviously they don't. I mean who parks at a traffic island meaning large vehicles have to pass over the traffic islands kerb and just cm's from the island's plastic bollard!!!
