Was on the 157 yesterday. The roads was nice and clear. A big thumbs up to the council for getting their gritter lorries out ;D It was a bit slippery in wallington station but they cleared it when I went back there again. I expected it to be much worse than this. So when I got back to the garage I was asked to cover a round and a half on the route T33. Considering I never done this route before I was eager to take it ;D I got to west croydon and cruised to selsdon. I only served three stops yet I was already two minutes late I proceeded along old farleigh road and down this massive hill. I swear this hill is steeper than anerley hill but I was more surprised with the conditions of the road. The snow was everywhere. I did a left onto sandpiper road and served the stop. Then I crawled my way round this tiny road which was covered in snow. I went up some hill doing only 10mph and went down some more hills at 5mph. I was going round bends on the other side of the road as only that part of the road was clear. I went down the last hill on bardolph avenue and I got a slight skid when going down there. That was it for me. Got to addington village and told ibus I will not continue Maybe if I was a little more familiar with the roads there I might have attempt to go back to west croydon but the roads were not gritted and I just wasn't comfortable especially with the snow coming down again. I was only covering this job anyway. After about 5 minutes of bickering with the ibus controller, I was finally told to take the bus back to the garage.

I know the T33 and I can well imagine the Selsdon Vale bit being dodgy in the snow, people still have the 64 from the main road

Well done to the Councils and TfL, they get so much blame when everything stands still. However, it was light snow during a time when many cars are on the road. I suspect Sunday could see more disruption, especially if it starts early morning.

Exactly. Safety must come first. In last years snow, a controller from another company was I believe killed by one of our PVLs that slid on a rail replacement job in Kent, squashing him between two buses.. It wasn't the drivers fault, but as you may expect they were very upset, let alone the family of the man killed. Not worth the risk. Not to disbelieve you but I thought it was a good samaritan who was attempting to assist and they wasn't killed just badly injured. Still an ongoing case as well, so need to be cautious in what you put, but i will say it was a 'senior member' of the management team at a sussex based operator. He went to assist a PVL stuck in the snow Robertsbridge, whilst working a hastings line rail replacement. He got squashed between the bus and his van, when the bus lost traction and skidded sideways suffering serious injuries, but luckily he survived.

Either I'm a wimp or brainy but I'd never try pushing vehicles up icy hills because I value my life to highly one slight slip and you could be squished. Note to bus drivers if you cant get up a hill or get stuck and I'm on your bus just leave the heaters on while I relax and wait for you to receive instructions on how to proceed. ;D

Keep the front wheels in the direction you're being pushed, you'll generate less friction, and you'll get more grip if you move the wheels slowly...*sigh*

"New type of snow found on incoming immigrants causes house prices to fall" is probably what the Daily Fail would write

Forecast for tonight suggests heavier band of snow, couple of cm in the centre of London but more on the hills in South London. unlike the flurries this morning, temps are expected to fall so might sit on any untreated roads
As usual take care
