Do we reckon the E400ER MMC will ever hit our streets? Very confusing as to what it is. Seems to be a hybrid that can do 3 miles on electric mode... what on earth differentiates it from the E400H MMC? Would be good to see it take orders which will likely go to BYD/ADL electric double deckers, like what's been seen at NP for 2020... Also, is there any competitor at all left out there to take on the BYD/ADL Double Decker electric? Surely Volvo will concoct something without needing Wrightbus? Volvo electric powered chassis on the E400MMC? The Enviro 400ER is primarily more aimed at outside London operators who have routes that cross through ULEZ’s or green corridors but don’t have the same intensive road network as London and where the cost saving is likely marginal at best. The ones for Brighton will run through the North Street green corridor. That's my thinking too, it doesn't strike me as a vehicle that has the London market in mind. Rather like the gas-powered Scania/ADL E400 City combo.

There's an interesting piece on the BBC London news website about Oxford Street in the latest updates section today at 10:40, which unfortunately I can't link to. Apparently 'In 1,000 days Oxford Street will be transformed into a modern leisure area, combining retail and cultural activities, according to the New West End Company.' It goes on to say 'The proposal for Oxford Street stops short of pedestrianisation but measures to ensure "cleaner air from reduced traffic and zero-emission buses" will be introduced.'
What does the New West End Company know then about zero-emission buses down Oxford Street? Does that mean all buses will be electric or hydrogen by then? What will happen to upcoming contracts such as the 139, will these routes now be electric I wonder?

Yes in 2021 Volvo is ‘concocting’ as you put it an electric double decker which will only be available on MCV (so presumably EvoSeti unless they bring out a new model) bodywork. Great to hear! Thanks all.

More lies being peddled out - wholly unworkable idea.

More lies being peddled out - wholly unworkable idea. As usual all lies with the government even by that date there will be diesel buses still running. It reminds me of the article the Isllington Gazette wrote about Holloway becoming all electric by 2022

Whilst it's headline-grabbing, it has unfortunately given the conservatives another opportunity to trot out the old "war on the motorist" mantra which, although a complete fallacy, does play out well to a certain audience. I want to see something about fixing the immediate problems that bus operators and passengers face, such as proper reimbursement for concessionary passes, money for bus priority measures, supporting councils to fund socially necessary services and fuel duty rebates. Get those nuts and bolts right then you can fund all your electric buses.

The SEes have taken over the 100!
Does anyone know if they are making the weird noise they are meant to make so people can hear them yet?

I believe the first buses to have the new safety trial are the P5/C10s buses not the 100s. A BBC news video said the 100 was going to be first, and showed a video of a trial with the new electric buses on the 100 making that noise, which is why I thought the 100 had that. Oh well, I think I am going to go down to East London today and find out for myself - it sounds like the 100 is well worth a ride anyway.

I believe the first buses to have the new safety trial are the P5/C10s buses not the 100s. The 100s buses do in fact have that artificial noise. Although I'm not sure how useful it will be considering it sounds nothing like a bus or any other road vehicle - people will probably end up thinking it's a busker somewhere in the background
