I've just read the TfL response to the Assembly's Bus Report. One interesting comment near the end of the report is that TfL is considering the implications for the bus network from the introduction of the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) in 2020. The report states that TfL estimate that they will need an extra 2,000 hybrid buses (on top of the already planned 1700 hybrids to be operated by 2016) by then alongside a significant number would be zero emission vehicles. It looks like whoever can make a successful electric or virtual electric bus is likely to be quids in over the next few years. It also looks to me that we could see a lot of hybrids in the suburbs as we're well on the way to converting Zone 1 routes. You never know there might even be some at Bromley Garage.

Does anyone have any idea what vehicles are going to turn up for the all electric trial on the 312? ADL's new Virtual Electric E350 or more ElectroMetrocities?

I remember reading a while back that the 69 was to electric double deckers. Is that still going ahead? And if it is, does anyone have more info such as when, who's going to make them, etc?

No idea as the 312 is meant to get electric buses of some sort as well.

No idea as the 312 is meant to get electric buses of some sort as well. From what I've read over the weeks there are two, as yet undefined, all electric single deckers due for the 312. If I was to guess I'd say that these will be the Alexander Dennis E350 based all electric bus. Note that's a complete guess - I've not seen a hint as to what might be on its way. To cover the 69 double deck trial question I think it's clear the 69 will be the route. TfL were still considering what route to choose a few months back but the 69 is confirmed. TfL are out to tender for the buses and infrastructure and there's been no comment yet as to what is going to be supplied and how many buses there will be. I've seen a suggestion that 2 buses would be involved but I somehow think that might change (i.e. increase) if the costs come in competitively or some extra funding can be found. I can't see fewer than 2 buses being supplied as I expect TfL will want to evaluate charging being done at each end of the route at the same time. 2 vehicles also gives some resilience in terms of failures. I suspect we might hear something in September as very little gets done or announced during August because of holidays.

This Mike Weston presentation includes some updates on hybrid and electric vehicles. Interesting numbers - 6 Metrocities apparently?? where are the missing two? Two un-ID's single deckers for 312. *4* double decks for the 69!!

Good luck charging those things on 69 if they're giving it 40/50 mins running time.

TfL have announced some details for the wireless charging electric buses on route 69. Press releaseThe buses will be specially modified E40Hs. It looks like the technology will be similar to that used for the Milton Keynes route 7 - inductive charging rather than buses having pantographs to charge against an elevated wire / bar. No date is given for when the trial will commence.

The 3 only meets that criteria at Crystal Palace.

Interesting to see that these buses will also run on Diesel as well if the Electricity runs out.

Bit of a cop out with those 69 deckers. Still can't see it running the whole trip on battery mode apart from at night let alone in the peaks and at weekends.
