I'm doubtful, this happens whenever any new bus is introduced on a route. There doesn't seem to have been any huge spike in demand on routes like the 212, 106, 230, 69, 173 and 174 around in East London and I imagine it'll be a similar case out West unless the buses on the 65 were so bad people were just actively avoiding the route. It’s a shame you feel so negative. Perhaps people in West London appreciate their buses better. I don't think he is being negative, what he said regarding people usually saying things of that sort any time a brand new bus enters service is correct IMO as I've experienced it many times. More investment in the bus network is needed beyond some new vehicles before we really begin attracting people back but TfL do not want or seemingly care about attracting people onto their network.

Had a ride on BCE47098 today. I’m a great fan of these buses anyway but it was really interesting listening to the opinions of other passengers. There were so many positive comments about the interior, exterior and ride quality. Particularly from younger people, students and school kids. I think this will reinvigorate bus travel. I very much agree, noticeably superior ride quality and it's a shame that TfL do so little to promote electric buses.

New buses soon those their new feeling and blend in just like any other bus. I'm sure passengers would notice more that the bus is constantly being held to help even out the service! Now if only things like this could be tackled. O and a nice sticker on the side of the saying I'm electric won't do a thing!

We have to consider the environmental aspect here as well, which younger people are far more attuned to. So an electric bus , or hydrogen bus, in the future will be a positive feature involving getting more people onto buses. like you, I’ve witnessed loads of new buses into service, and I’ve never heard positive comments a plenty as I did today. That is credit to the design and interior of the BCE plus the fact it is electric and looks very different with the stand out blind display ( something not in use by Stagecoach) As as an enthusiast I’m enthused by these comments I heard today.

A couple of years ago when the Class 455 on South West Trains were refurbished with new seats etc, there were comments from passengers on how good these "new" trains were - not bad for trains that were built in the early 1980s.
Transdev in Yorkshire and Lancashire refurbish their buses on a regular basis and then re-register them to hid their actual age.
Railway vehicles have the advantage of not having a registration plate, whereas buses do which makes it easier to discover that it an old vehicle but as long as the vehicle looks nice and new and is reliable, you can fool most people.
However I do agree that a new bus is better than a sheep in wolf's clothing:-)

Not London, but Newport Transport has been finding the range of its Yutong E12s to be far better than expected. During the school summer holidays its has been trialling the vehicles on the interurban X30 and 30 routes to Cardiff. Double-deck working returned to the 30 in September due to better-than-expected peak demand, but the vehicles are still being used on the X30 which uses the M4/A48(M) motorways between the two cities.
The 30 is famously operated jointly with Cardiff Bus, and is the last remaining example of what was once a common phenomenon in the UK, joint operation by two (or more) municipally-owned operators.

I don't buy this superior ride quality argument. Been on some pretty smooth hybrid buses even smart hybrids offer a decent smooth ride!
As for the livery argument its a bit late now we have 100s of electric buses in service and more entering service everyday! London is well known for its red buses and that's all passengers look for! Really can't compare London to other places in the UK were there are many varied liveries so naturally they will be more creative.
I would be interested to see passenger habits if two routes shared a common section (One Hybrid/Diesel and one electrics) - I can't see the average passenger stepping back to let the hybrid go and waiting for a electric bus.

That's a very judgemental statement the passenger could have used the bus for one stop for any number of reasons yet you make a remark assuming she would be claiming poverty! She could have been in a rush? even maybe had a hidden disability? or heck just felt lazy that day?

When/if the E1 gets extended to Osterley we will see the BCE 65 run alongside the ADH E1. However the unreliability of the ADH's may change the outcome.

I'm not sure how far people travel is particularly relevant, and yes obviously a reliable and affordable service is important but there is no harm in advertising the product to a wider audience like just about every other bus operator in the country has done. All electric buses are going to still be a new novelty for sometime to come.
