The RM could be done in a day. Seen a clip on You Tube, check the BBC web page you might see the whole documentary Wasn't even a whole day, was designed to be done between morning and evening peaks (the between peaks service was much less when this was planned in 1950s). The whole maintenance regime has changed, most garages no longer have complete spare engines that they can exchange. When you watch the documentary, the SW garage managers face is priceless when talking about the rear engine removal.

You can't really compare the two, For example - Do RM's have complex electrical systems, Ad-Blue systems etc etc...Not to mention now you have to have the engine, gearbox and final drive systems all at the rear in most cases. With the RM it was all spread it meaning it's not so cramped to change units.

What a shame. Somehow I knew it would be that way. It really wasn't in good condition before its withdrawal. What was the condition of PVL115 after it's accident? Are there any photos? It seems like this bus could have gone on a lot longer. Sad to see it go this way. It's engine and gearbox will live on as Ensignbus had removed them from the bus.

This video from BristolRE on YouTube shows ELS14 working for Trustybus, and still largely untouched. So fresh from London Central it even has an advert, and is displaying its 42 blind in the rear blindbox. Former Stagecoach 18225 / Tower Transit TAL33202 is also shown working for Trustybus.
