The E1's main allocation is the lovely 14 reg old body examples although MMC's do indeed stray onto it often. When I looked on lvf the next two buses after 2564 were both 95** so got on the 25** batch even though if I waited it would have been slightly less busy. You dodged a bullet in not getting the 95** one, those Enviro 400s are awfully slow and very unreliable. Thankfully at least the 09-reg Enviro 400s will be leaving soon as they'll be too old to start another contract on the E9, meaning we'll be down to only one batch of terrible Enviros soon.

Sounds like a great day. I really like the E1, even though I don't use it much, but the route is excellent with MMCs, it could do with a frequency increase as it suffers from chronic overcrowding. I agree with you the E3 is a great route but ruined by low speed limits, I do prefer VHs on the route to the ADHs though. Been on the E1 twice now and both times have been busy, goes to show that even short routes can be very useful. I didn't used to be but I've shifted to be against extending the E1. An Osterley extension could seriously harm the route, making it less reliable meaning that overcrowding at Ealing Broadway worsens due to gaps in the service. I've previously been interested in extending the route north and south, but rather than extending the E1 from Greenford to Harrow, I'd create a new route following the E1's routing between Ealing and Greenford then on to Harrow via Sudbury, this could allow for a small frequency cut to the E1 with the two routes sharing the burden of the crowds leaving Ealing Broadway. Ideally there could be a limited stop Ealing-Harrow express but I don't see that working in practice and many would suggest there's no need for it when as inconvenient as it can be, there is the option of just getting the 427/607 to Hayes Grapes then the 140/X140 which is fine but it shows what a joke the 483 is at connecting Ealing to Harrow - though don't get me wrong it connects Ealing-Wembley very well.

302 - VWH2025 - Mill Hill Broadway > Roe Green 204 - TE1104 - Roe Green > Kingsbury Station Later on: 324 - DE1030 - Kingsbury Station > Brent Cross Shopping Centre 210 - TEH1462 - Brent Cross Shopping Centre > Golders Green 13 - MV38204 - Golders Green > North Finchley 125 - VWH2050 - North Finchley > Grahame Park 186 - VW1372 - Grahame Park > Mill Hill Broadway
Most of it was pretty good stuff really - But I must say for the first time I actually had some thrash on the 13 up the Finchley Road. TEH1462 is also a great bus, following up from TEH1455 a few weeks ago, glad some of these 13 regs have stayed at W.

Today was my first use of any public transport (let alone buses) in just over 3 weeks. After getting a car, I've not needed to go anywhere which is more convenient by public transport. I also took a break from buses, as actually using them for commuting (instead of while being out on a jolly) had left me completely fed up of the things . Anyway, with a week left until 482 to Abellio, I had to go on that route with Metroline stuff while I had time (as I work full time and won't have time on weekdays). Drive to Hounslow West area (Henlys Roundabout), then snapped a few buses, including the important one for me (TEH1453, as I didn't have any shot of those). Then walk down the road for food before going on buses. First move was MCL30306 from Hounslow West Station to Hatton Cross on the 203, after I'd narrowly missed TE1739 on the 482 while crossing the road . The MCL was floored so it was a perfect start 😃. Was actually tempting to stay on it for longer, but the next 482 was close behind. However, I ignored that TE as a few minutes behind was TE1579 curtailed to Hatton Cross, and I got a shot of it. Nice bit of controlling saw another bus drop onto its booked departure from Heathrow, with that TE1579 then picking up its leader's working about 3L 😄. Eventually left Hatton Cross using TE1744, doing a rounder to Terminal 5 and back to Hatton Cross. Unsurprisingly a nice bus as it's a 09-reg, and bit of thrash. Next bus was piece of crap TE1574 to Terminal 4. The 607 left these really tired but Metroline have decided to keep these instead of 09-reg ex-First and 58/09-reg native TEs 🤦🏻♂️. Bus had a very weird whistling sound while accelerating, and there was a shocking amount of grime inside (especially inside the light diffusers). Avoided that on the way back using 8842 on the 490, extremely smooth driving there 👌🏼. Third time to Terminal 5 had TE1579 in derate mode, but otherwise mostly ok. Once again loads of dirt, with obvious signs of a leak and mould in the light diffusers 🤦🏻♂️. Again driver flooring it. However, that's when things went downhill. Arrival at Terminal 5 was about 11L at 1822, when we should have left again at 1818. That wouldn't have been a problem normally, but this driver was something else. Instead of getting on with it and leaving quickly, he left around 1835, over 15L, for no reason! . Bonus points for forgetting to change the destination blind when there was all that time (important as a double run has the same stop for both directions). There was E400 thrash but that unnecessary waste of time was just not on. Wasn't even getting curtailed as the driver was finishing after the trip. Used the bus to "Great West Road / Renfrew Road". After that I decided to just go home, and completely failed to notice that TEH1453 was nearby towards Heathrow . Would have been nice to go on that. Not the first time in the last few months that I've had a driver arrive late then waste time for no reason. Seen it a few times on the 266 when I used that, and the only time I used a Metroline 81 the driver turned a 45 minute gap into a whole hour (!) . Too many drivers out there who just mess around and ruin it for both their colleagues and the passengers.

I wouldn't be surprised if the reason these were kept over the 09 regs and native TEs is because of having a higher resale value. Nearly all 7xx/8xx TEs that have been sold have found a new home - I think only TE719/720 were scrapped so far, all other 7xx/8xx ones sold have been sold on. I'm not surprised about the grime and condition either, these buses are probably being left to just struggle on at this point considering their age and withdrawal is probably around the corner - They've had a fairly tough life too with the routes its operated. I'm hoping to sample at least 1 15xx or 17xx TE at UX on the 114 - sadly anytime I use the route it is fully VWH . Overall I'm aiming to catch as many Euro IV TEs/Ts as possible before they go - Makes me happy there is a delay in replacement of the 240s TEs and 102s remaining Ts.

Journey's on Saturday/Sunday - Was heading out to play football and go work Rail Replacement Bus - Ilford (Ilford Broadway) to Stratford (Stratford City Bus Station) - This was on an LT, was kinda hoping for an Enviro 400 but I didn't mind though. This journey was somewhat annoying because of how slow the journey was between Ilford and Manor Park, I don't know what it is between this section but it is so annoyingly slow. I have found myself walking from Ilford to Manor Park and beating several buses in the process. One good thing though was that since I got rail replacement, I didn't have to worry too much about the hopper fare as such.
108 - Stratford City Bus Station to North Greenwich - Enjoyable journey on a Citaro, honestly my favourite single decker bus, when these go I'll honestly be so gutted because of how good these buses are.
132 - North Greenwich to Eltham Church/Well Hall Road - Decent journey on a 61-reg Enviro 400, always love the bit of thrash on the A102 bit of the route.
161 - Eltham Church/Well Hall Road to Mottingham Station - Short journey on a Enviro 400, bus was right behind 132 and took me closer to where I needed to be, so just took that instead of walking.
Return:
286 - Eltham Church/Well Hall Road to Blackheath, Royal Standard. I had just missed a 132, and a 286 was coming in a minute so I thought why not, and used it for the very first time.
335 - Blackheath, Royal Standard to North Greenwich - The bus was coming in 4 minutes while the 108 was coming 8, so I thought why not and rode it for the first time as well on a Gemini 2 Volvo B5LH hybrid to North Greenwich. It felt very weird being on a Arriva bus heading to North Greenwich I must admit.
108 - North Greenwich to Stratford City Bus Station - More Citaro excellence on the 108, I genuinely wish these could stay on the 108 forever.
Rail Replacement Service - Stratford (Stratford City Bus Station) to Ilford (Ilford Hill) - This time on an Enviro 400H, had to make do with standing the whole journey, which tbf wasn't bad, and at least the journey between Manor Park and Ilford was quicker than it was in the morning.
Journey to and from work:
179 - Ilford to South Woodford - Driver was flooring it for this one, which I really needed because if he didn't I would have been late for work lol. Also ended up passing a 123 I missed earlier meaning that I ended up making it to work on time despite taking a later bus.
Return
N55 - South Woodford to Wanstead Station - Could have easily taken 123 home but unfortunately that wasn't coming for time and since an N55 was coming I took it to Wanstead. Quick journey on an LT.
145 - Wanstead Station to Ilford - And to round it off, a quick journey home on the 145 back home.

Thought I'd resurrect this thread with a journey I never reported as it was before I joined the Forum. Hopefully it's an interesting one. For me, it was made more special by the fact that the roads everywhere (apart from the 349 journey) were clear. Featuring some commentary, enjoy!
31 December 2018 (New Year's Eve!!) - off to West Drayton for NYE Celebrations with friends. Set off from Woodford at I believe 3:30pm:
275: 12149 LX61DCU [Woodford Station - Woodford Green, High Rd/Castle] Approx. 5 mins
If I could stay on longer I certainly would've. We had an absolute thrasher.
20: WVL111 LX03EDV [High Rd Woodford - Walthamstow Central] Approx 20 mins
The reason I left the house at that precise time and went to the Castle: this Gemini1 strayed onto the 20! This B7 has the grey skirt and is still knocking around the 191/476/616 routes to this day (even during COVID). Really speedy journey - the GAL drivers on the 20 were never slow. The HCT ones however, hit and miss. Some are ridiculously speedy and early - others, horribly slow and on time(ish).
230: DW551 LJ13CDY [Walthamstow Central - Tottenham Garage] Approx 15 mins
This DB300 was actually very good. Unlike much of the LJ61 and LJ11 batches, the LJ63 and LJ13 ones are decent. Some exceptions exist (DW478 being one).
349: DW415 LJ11AEF [Tottenham Garage - Edmonton Green] Approx 10/15 mins
And what a change this was from the 230. Powerless. Driver really trying to give it his all, but never going above 20mph. 5pm traffic prolonged the journey somewhat... otherwise, fine for the shortish hop. Happy to have ticked the 349 off.
W8: TE946 LK58KHM [Edmonton Green - Enfield Town Centre] Approx 15 mins
The first of four E400s to come! And easily the loudest one. But not necessarily the most powerful. Had never done the route before, so this was a treat. Empty streets through the suburbs of Edmonton and Enfield. Really nice that this route is deckered. A PB E400 is always rewarding.
307: TE1420 LK62DXM [Enfield Town Centre - New Barnet Station] Approx 15 mins
This was an ex-134 E400. They're a very good batch of ZFs (I think?). Always better than anything new at Arriva, TT or GAL. We regulated briefly just outside Oakwood Station. But speedy. Lots of families heading to the tube into central London were on this bus.
107: TE979 LK59DZC [New Barnet Station - Elstree Film Studios] Approx 20 mins
Hellfire E400 at last. Was the only one aboard all the way until Barnet Church. As soon as I'd sat down upstairs the driver said something on the comms system to me and we laughed, but I cannot recall.... he waited for me to sit down before revving away from the stop. Speedy past Barnet Hospital and along the country road which leads to the A1. I missed the stop I should've got off at so kept going until we rejoined the 292's route just before the Film Studios in Elstree.
292: TE991 LK59DZR [Elstree Film Studios - Edgware Station] Approx 20 mins
Given the infrequent every 20-30mins service, the 292 was pretty rammed towards Edgware. Many alighting at the last stop along with me. I appreciated our speed all the way - but seemed a pretty typical E400 from the 2009 batch. The A1 was assaulted very well.
Pitstop at Edgware Shopping Centre
79: SP40204 YR10FGN [Edgware Station - Kingsbury] Approx 15/20 mins
Slow, powerless Scania. Such a bore, and disappointing. Was looking forward to trying out a Scania on the 79. Eitherhow, I checked LVF for a quick getaway from SP204 and noticed that I was about to cross the path of the 183 at Kingsbury. And there was one due in a couple mins. So I hopped off and ran to the nearest 183 stop, almost missing it....
183: SP40086 YT59RYN [Kingsbury - Harrow-on-the-Hill Station] Approx 15 mins
....and as always, if one bus is boring, the next isn't. And vice versa. I've recently read on here that 183 drivers are notorious for all running early if the streets are empty, and this guy was no exception. Sounds that Scania created I hadn't heard since the 97/262/473 lost 15083 and 15087. Endless speed. Thrilling way to reach Harrow. Now for the last leg down one straight-ish road to Hayes and Harlington.
395: DE958 LK58CTU [Harrow-on-the-Hill Station - South Harrow Station] Approx 10 mins
This 2008 E200 was soon to leave service as the 395 was being handed to London Sovereign shortly after this journey. But also, I found it odd that the 140 actually diverts around the most direct route between HOTH and South Harrow. The 395 turned up first too. Very packed and busy bus too. So were the 140s and 395s coming the other way - the 114 not so much so, unsurprisingly. My only single deck for the whole trip.
140: VWH2242 LK66EOM [South Harrow Station - Hayes & Harlington] Approx 30 mins
Stuck in traffic for much of the journey up to the A40, bit better after that. Completely clear after Uxbridge Road. I still very sadly missed a U5. So had a 10ish minute wait outside the station. Typical B5LH, not much going on.
U5: 2446 SK14CUC [Hayes & Harlington - West Drayton] Approx 15 mins
Was talking on the phone not paying attention and almost missed it when this rocked up! Never expected to see a classic E400H at all. Loved doing non stop all the way down and half way back up Stockley Road. Very speedy all the way. Stockley Park abandoned as expected. Fitting end to complete the long journey - arrived I think around 9pm. Also, note the rare SK reg on a bus from before 2018!!
The return the next day was a very short (but brisk) combo of 2530 YX15OWZ on the U5 back to H&H and VWH2203 LK66DXA on the 140 thereon as far as Northolt station. Central Line for 1 hour 15 mins to Woodford.
Wait for any bus on this journey was maximum 4-5 mins except for 292 (15 mins!) and the U5 (10 mins)

Just had a lovely ride most of my way home from work on EH283 on the N21, full length of route. Steady numbers throughout. Great driver.

15/07/2020 - Trying the 405 diversion. 18:30 T294 401 Belvedere - Bexleyheath 18:39 Standard trip, pretty fast in evenings. 18:45 37504 B14 Bexleyheath - Orpington 19:34 The B14 is quite nippy in the evenings however I despise the MMCs allocated to this route as I just cannot get comfortable on them due to the large seats taking up excessive room. 19:49 EN44 353 Orpington - Addington Village 20:09. I like the 353. 20:23 T46 466 Addington Village - Croydon Park Street 20:37. Nice to have an older T as there was only a few out but by my god the rattles! Also this was really speedy. 21:05 E38 405 Croydon - Redhill. Was glad to get out of there as some assault/stabbing had occurred on the Park on Park Street. 21:50 E38 405 Redhill - Croydon. The driver was an X26 driver and hadn't driven the 405 for a while, nevertheless covered the lengthy diversion via Godstone very well. 22:58 WHV52 119 Croydon - Bromley North. If you haven't been on a night 119 I do recommend it. 23:40 HV43 269 Bromley North - Friswell Place. This was by pure chance however finally bagged a HV on the 260 and my god it was quick. 23 mins from Bromley to Bheath. No stopping at all, was my own by the whole trip. Also for naysayers the hill at Chislehurst this flew up, for hilly routes you want a Volvo. 00:20 DW432 99 Bexleyheath - Upper Belvedere 00:45. Last 99 of the night!
Evening bus bashes are the best if you want to cover mileage etc. This in the daytime would of taken much longer.

Back in March my father was followed all the way home from the centre of Croydon by a gang of moped drivers who then proceeded to try and steal his car. Luckily he managed to fight them off, helped by him parking the driver's side of the car right up against the side of our drive. Police said that it was a very new form of moped crime (branching out from petty pavement attacks, theft... etc.) with most reported cases (at that time) being around Croydon. I'm not one for making rash decisions and all that but as far as I'm concerned I'm avoiding Croydon at all costs. Can't even be safe in a bloody car anymore.

May I ask what was the diversion on 405, Katherine street? I believe the diversion starts from Purley and runs via Kenley, Whyteleaf, Caterham & Godstone before running along the A25 to Redhill missing out everything from Coulsdon to Merstham
