I'd been wanting to do some of Go-Ahead London's Sutton routes for a while now, and particularly with the DOE's and SOE's going I went for a journey today to try and ride as many as I could. And it was a journey to remember as nearly every bus I took was curtailed due to the resultant traffic caused by the train strike and various roadworks taking place. I don't think I've ever encountered this level of curtailments before! Walked to Kenley Station 434 to Purley Library (189) - Nothing much to report here, other than having been on diversion for a while due to Foxley Hill Road being closed for Gas works, the 434 was now back on its line of route. 60 to West Croydon Bus Station (T280) - hadn't had a chance to ride on one of the 13 reg T's since they were refurbished so I finally got a chance to do so when T280 turned up on the 60. But there was so much traffic just to reach Croydon, due to two sets of roadworks in South Croydon, first near TC itself and secondly there was Thames Water carrying out works on the junction of Coombe Road. And there was chaos there as the temporary traffic lights had stopped working in our direction so traffic was moving very slowly. Rather surprised this wasn't curtailed. When we got to Wellesley Road, DW323 had come to grief at the junction of Park Street whilst on the 466 and it was rather amusing to see how our driver reacted to that! 154 to The Chase (DOE29) - I was expecting to get DOE26 for my journey on the 154, but DOE29 which arrived many minutes behind it, somehow ended up leaving before. I was intending to get to Rose Hill, however the journey didn't even last 6 stops. The controller suddenly terminated the bus at Stafford Road, The Chase. I didn't think there was any late running so this was a weird turn. Shame really as it was a decent bus. 154 to Sutton Green ( DOE26) - whilst the controller had terminated my bus early, what they didn't do was inform the driver of DOE26 which was now the bus behind, so he was rather perplexed when he saw the first passenger from my bus walking past without tapping in. He then called the passenger back who then explained what had happened with DOE29, but the driver had no knowledge about it. Have transfer vouchers become a thing of the past? The driver did look rather annoyed. This bus was then curtailed while we were heading through Roundshaw but iBus was still implying that the bus was going to Morden. It was only when I saw a reflection of the bus in a shop window that I knew it was only going as far as Sutton Green, so I wouldn't make it to Rose Hill. I did see that the reason for these curtailments was due to heavy traffic in the Rose Hill area which delayed buses on their inbound journey from Morden. Eventually the bus turned into Bushey Road, dropped us offa at the 80's stop there before turning around at Sutton Bus Garage. 151 to Sutton Police Station ( DOE41) - a shorter ride than what I was expecting on the 151 for a few stops. And this was another bus that was curtailed, to Cheam. Thankfully this time it didn't affect me as I was only intending to go to Sutton for some lunch. Went for lunch 213 to Sutton Police Station (WVL443) - felt a bit lazy after lunch so decided to get this back up to Sutton Police Station to connect with an 80 at Sutton Station. This bus had a rear ad on it for South Thames College Group (I think) 80 to Morden South Station ( SOE40) - eventually I did end up getting a SOE, but this was the only one I had all day. The iBus announcements weren't working on this bus, so I had to pay close attention to the screens but otherwise a decent journey. I'd got the picture of it on it's previous journey just 20 minutes before, so I wondered how it got back to Sutton so quickly from Belmont. It must have been curtailed. 93 to Marryat Road (WHV114) - I was hoping to get a DOE here, unfortunately I'd arrived at a time where the next three buses were either a WHV or WVL. DOE34 was due to arrive within that sequence, but this had been curtailed to Morden even though it was coming from North Cheam, so I had to make do with WHV114. I was hoping to get to Putney Heath, but then you guessed it - another curtailment. We'd overtaken WVL313 at Morden Station which had been told to regulate. But firstly when we got to South Wimbledon the bus was curtailed at Putney Heath, then as we got to Wimbledon Village, we were suddenly told that the bus would terminate at Marryat Road. 93 to Morden Station (DOE5) - I did eventually get a DOE on the 93, and it was one of the early DOE's. This one was a bit knackered though. And yet again, this bus was another to be curtailed, and this was one curtailment I'd never heard of before - Sutton Common Road, Woodstock. Though it had always been on the blinds of buses on the 93. 80 to Welbeck Road (DOE53) - Given the lottery of buses out on the 80 today, I was lucky to get a DOE on it to get to Hackbridge. It was looking very touch and go for whether I'd make it in time to connect with a 151 which was due to arrive at the same time, but luckily the 151 was held up so I made it on time. This bus was very busy all the way from Morden, and I'd say it justifies why the 80's converting to double deck but I'd imagine part of this was caused by the rail strikes. 151 to Wallington Station (DOE14) - the last DOE of the day and finally, one bus that wasn't curtailed to its final destination. Though annoyingly someone was playing their music out loud on this trip. Behind this bus came the last DOE (DOE54) followed by the first DOE (DOE1), but there was a long gap between these two and DOE14 so I settled for this. 127 to Purley High Street/Purley Station (WVL358) - managed to get one of the 633's WVL's for the first time for this journey. This was another journey which was very touch and go with me making a connection onto a 434 at Purley however I wasn't so lucky this time, as the 434 got out ahead of us and we were not able to overtake it. 407 to The Kenley Hotel/Kenley Station (2580) - It looked like I was about to miss both the 434 and 407 to get me home, however I just about made this straight after getting off WVL358. Walked home.

I hope there's some kind of final day 'celebration' with the DOEs but fear they will quietly fade away as charging capacity at A is incrementally added when the electrification commences... Back to you day and must have been a frustrating day with all those curtailments - Saturday, particularly Saturday lunchtime seems to be a nightmare to travel anywhere by road in London...and frankly I don't know how bus drivers stay sane with all the temporary traffic lights...

The level of curtailments were incredibly frustrating, unlike anything I'd ever experienced before though it's obvious as to why the traffic across London yesterday was very bad. In terms of the DOE's and SOE's, I think all of the DOE's will most certainly be withdrawn once the electrics arrive, I can't see them being used elsewhere even on a temporary basis. I do hope they stay within the Go-Ahead Group though. I never used to like the DOE's until they were refurbished. I remember posting on here back in 2015 how much I hated them. My opinion of them has dramatically changed since they were refurbished - I do like them now! The SOE's however should remain until at least March 2024 when the 455 is expected to be withdrawn, though that also depends on the outcome of the 152's tender result as there could be a delay if Go-Ahead retain it with new electrics so that could see the SOE’s last a little longer

From yesterday:
Did the D (Docklands routes) end to end. Apart from the D8 which I've done partly from Bromley-by-Bow Tesco to Crossharbour. Apart from that, haven't touched then at all. Had to alter my journey slightly because of the strikes.
Walked to Wood Green Station Piccadilly line- Wood Green to Finsbury Park Victoria line- Finsbury Park to Oxford Circus Central line- Oxford Circus to Bethnal Green 1300 (309)- Bethnal Green Station to Bonner Road (wasn't a Solo unfortunately but an Enviro 200 is still good enough. Loved the moquette) 36567 (D3)- Bonner Road to Leamouth/Orchard Place (could become a shell of a route if the proposed changes come to light) Walked across London City Island to Canning Town 29204 (323)- Canning Town Bus Station to Mile End Station WVL434 (D7)- Mile End Station/Bow Road to Poplar/All Saints Church (another route that could be gone by next year. Quite frankly I don't think the 277 will be enough for a Mile End- Isle of Dogs route but we'll see) Walked to All Saints DLR DLR- All Saints to Crossharbour via a change at Canary Wharf Walked to Crossharbour Asda 2532 (D6)- Crossharbour Asda to Mare Street/Victoria Park Road (just a couple hours as I noted it in the T&O thread, I ended up taking it. I do find Ash Grove to be a random terminus even if AE is just around the corner) 2535 (388)- Mare Street/Victoria Park Road to Stratford City Bus Station (can't wait for this to be a Stratford- Peckham route. Wouldn't be ideal but TFL seems to love a cross-London route these days.) Walked across the walkway from Stratford City to Stratford Bus Station 19767 (D8)- Stratford Bus Station to Bromley-by-Bow Station (so weird seeing Stagecoach logos on a Gemini 2. Noticed that the ex-TT buses that have had new Stagecoach logos have had repaints too) Walked to Bromley-by-Bow Station District line- Bromley-by-Bow to Tower Hill Circle line- Tower Hill to King's Cross St Pancras Victoria line- King's Cross St Pancras to Finsbury Park Piccadilly line- Finsbury Park to Wood Green (the contrast from the way too hot Victoria Line to the cold Piccadilly Line isn't nice I tell you) Walked home

My bus journey today ...............
V. early doors VW1053 E8 Busch Corner to Ealing Broadway Haven Green ....... Got some nice photos of a couple of Scania's on the E1 and DE16xx's on the 226 in the false dawn light. Then DEL2610 on the 112 to Brent Park and into Tesco's for a couple of hours of mainly to have a final photo crack at TE2000 and its 92 brethren, pick up ML DEL1972 & 1974 on the 206 & some low LT's on the 332. The approach road into the car park next to the A406 makes for a nice unhindered and relatively shadow free sun-side shot. Then Jubilee / DLR to Westferry for yet more 135, D7 & D3 photos before a final DLR ride to Gallions Reach - with shots of 18905 La'eeb and 18915 Let's Do London on the 262 whilst walking to the DLR depot & work.
Definitely having a thing about liveried buses at the mo. - spent the previous day chasing about Central London tracking down the latest batch of LT's in the Battersea Power Station & various Moncler guises

Over the weekend I did the E or Ealing routes. Tried doing it all in one day but turns out me leaving 10am isn't enough to cram them all in so did them in two.
Saturday:
Walked to Wood Green station Piccadilly line- Wood Green to King's Cross st Pancras H&C line- Kings Cross st Pancras to Hammersmith Just missed the 190 whilst walking out of Hammersmith station so walked to the lower bus station SE299 (533)- Hammersmith Bus Station to Hogarth Roundabout Walked to E3's Edensor Road terminus ADH45037 (E3)- Edensor Road/New Chiswick Pool to Clifton Road 8242 (E11)- Clifton Road to The Common/Warwick Dene Walked across Ealing Common 9529 (207)- Hanger Lane to Christchurch Got off a stop later so walked to Haven Green via a very dodgy alleyway ADH45029 (E1)- Haven Green/Ealing Broadway Station to Clifton Road VW1036 (E2)- Clifton Road to Brentford Bus Garage (slowest VW I've ever been on. Struggled to climb some hills) Stopped for a toilet break then catched VW1056 on the E8 to Hounslow (Bell Corner) and then VW1059 on the E8 back to Ealing Broadway 8240- (E11) Haven Green/Ealing Broadway Station to Islip Manor Road After that I connected to E9 by walking a few minutes to the main road and catching VMH2584 on the 90 to Dilston Close VMH2571 (E9)- Dilston Close to Welbeck Avenue and back to Ealing Broadway 8870 (E7)- Ealing Broadway Station to Ruislip Station Saw a Piccadilly line at Ruislip rushed to take it without realising it was going towards Uxbridge and not Park Royal so ended up being stuck up until Ickenham Metropolitan line- Ickenham to Rayner's Lane Piccadilly line- Rayner's Lane to Park Royal Walked to Hanger Lane central line- Hanger Lane to Perivale Had 12 minutes to make it to Perivale Tesco; made it and took 8154 on the E5 to Toplocks Estate and back to Southall Now all was left for the E6 which I would take the 195 to Bulls Bridge. However having missed the 195 and me having to wait 15 minutes with the time approaching midnight I took the 105 instead which stops close too. But I took it in the wrong direction and ended up at Greenford Station where I decided to call it a day and went home. The bus was VH45162 if anyone wants to know
Central line- Greenford to Holborn Piccadilly line- Holborn to Wood Green Walked home

Part 2: post was getting rather long
So today i finished what I started with completing the E routes end to end by doing the E6.
Walked to Wood Green station
Piccadilly line- Wood Green to Holborn (was totally empty when it arrived. Must've been a train that terminated at Wood Green that came back to service) Central line- Wood Green to Greenford DE1130 (E6)- Rockware Avenue/ Greenford Station to Bulls Bridge Tesco 8881 (195)- Hayes Road Tesco to Park Avenue (really lived up to the billing of being one of the most popular single decks routes. Hopefully on its new contract it can be awarded with some DDs just like the 203 recently) Walked to Southall Station Elizabeth line- Southall to Paddington (forgot to touch out at Paddington. Seems like theyve removed the gates and replaced them with those mini card reader's that you see at a lot of DLR, National Rail and Tram stops/stations. So just used my card for the rest of the trip) District line- Paddington to Edgware Road H&C line- Edgware Road to King's Cross st Pancras Piccadilly line- Kings Cross st Pancras to Wood Green Walked home

From yesterday
371 BE37071 (FW188) Home to Richmond Station. The next bus was a minute behind so this one was turned at Richmond Station. Haven't seen this one before; usually the Richmond Hill turn is used.] Overground to West Hampstead 139 TEH2079 West Hampstead to Golders Green. Nice refurb with very padded seats and black highlights - but saw tomatoes TEH2073 and TEH2075. It just doesn't work for E400MMC buses! 83 VWH2302 Golders Green to North Circular Road Brent Street / Green Lane - stupidly forgot to press the bell. 240 TE983 to Mill Hill East station. The ride quality wasn't a patch on the hybrids and electrics. 221 HV227 Abercorn Road to Tally Ho! Corner. I do love the new Arriva interior with the cream grab rails. 134 OME2659 North Finchley Bus Station to Cranley Gardens - got this as my phone was running low on charge. Then I did the northern Parkland Walk and walked around Ally Pally. Turns out it was the first place a regular BBC broadcast was made and I went there on the BBC's 100th anniversary! W3 T225 Alexandra Palace Garden Centre to Barratt Avenue - there were 6 consecutive stops with 'Palace' in it! 184 SEe140 Barratt Avenue to Albert Road. From this bus I saw AE25 on the 299 with a paper dashboard blind. 102 SW1 Albert Road to Golders Green Station. Wanted to get this bus after it returned from VOR - only classic Streetdeck still in London. H2 OS2499 Golders Green to Golders Green. Cute little bus travelling through beautiful Hampstead Garden Suburb. Seats even comfier than the TEH and disproportionately big windows. 268 DE1160 Golders Green Station to Belsize Avenue. Unfortunately didn't stop at Haverstock Hill / Pond Street due to roadworks. 168 LT643 Belsize Park Station to South End Green. I like the downstairs layout but do agree the MMC's and SW1 have better layouts. Compared to the BCE... Overground to Richmond then BCE47036 371 home.

Did the East London Transit routes today. (With a name like East London Transit you kinda expect more than liveried LTs which manages to stray on the 15 but whatever)
Walked to Wood Green Station Piccadilly line- Wood Green to Finsbury Park Victoria line- Finsbury Park to Tottenham Hale Didn't check the closures for this week but there were no Stratford Greater Anglia services so ended up going to Liverpool Street Elizabeth line- Liverpool Street to Ilford Started pouring at this point so luckily I could stay dry with the EL1 being stuck in the Ilford Lane traffic LT951 (EL1)- Ilford Station/Ilford Hill to Northgate Road The EL3 from Riverside Centre was leaving in 29 minutes so decided against retaking the EL1 and walked to catch the EL3. Stopped at a Co-op on the way LT917 (EL3)- Riverside Centre to Chadwell Heath Lane 14118 (173)- Little Heath to Morris Avenue LT946 (EL2)- Becontree Heath Leisure Centre to Dagenham Dock Terminus (isn't that scary as you guys say) Walked to Dagenham Dock station via a very dirty lift and a very dark footbridge C2C- Dagenham Dock to Barking Overground- Barking to Black horse Road Victoria line- Blackhorse Road to Finsbury Park Piccadilly line- Finsbury Park to Wood Green Walked home
Taking a short break from prefixed routes. Going to Bond Street for the Elizabeth line tomorrow (finally!!!) then doing the Shenfield line joining up to the Central Core with the 295 in-between

Did the East London Transit routes today. (With a name like East London Transit you kinda expect more than liveried LTs which manages to stray on the 15 but whatever) <snip> LT951 (EL1)- Ilford Station/Ilford Hill to Northgate Road <snip> Funny you should say that, as East London Transit was originally conceived as a possible tram system. It is possible to look at the Medical Centre stops on Bastable Avenue in the middle of the traffic island and imagine the tram stop that it could have been. East London Transit commenced on 20th February 2010, with new Wright Gemini 2-bodied Volvos with dedicated red and orange vinyls that were replicated on the bus shelters along the route; the vehicles also had a special red and orange moquette. EL1 was a direct replacement for the 369 which was withdrawn at the same time, whilst the EL2 broke new ground, reaching a new terminus at Dagenham Dock Station via a then-undeveloped Choats Road.
