I was pondering the aesthetic clutter that is the ELS type this evening and I got thinking about what type of London Bus through the ages that I really didn't like.
I'd have to go for the DMS, possibly because my local garage BK got saddled with some of the oldest ones just before the Titans were introduced. Design-wise they were pretty uninspiring (I grew up with RTs and RMs in my area) and they made a horrible noise when braking. That said the Ensignbus ones looked pretty smart when they were introduced on the 145 which suggests that they simply needed some TLC.
I started to wonder whether anyone else had a least favourite too.

There's quite a few buses I don't like purely based on looks. I will never grow to like OmniDekkas. The ceilings are too low, and the bus just looks...ugly! Omnicities aren't the best looking either. Too big and bulky for my liking.
On the other hand, I was never a fan of Wrights at first. But then they began to grow on me. Likewise with Enviros.

I think I would vote for the Mercedes minibuses put on the Gold Arrow services. They were wholly inadequate for the 28 and 31 and I gave up using those routes as I could not bare the overcrowding and lack of comfort. The Dart / Marshalls that followed were not much of an improvement. I felt sorry for anyone who had to endure those routes on a regular basis until common sense broke out and DDs were restored.

The AVLs looked and sounded horrible and always some sort of graffiti when I was on them routes 35/45. The ADLs were also aesthetically challenged.

Sorry but they were lovely buses, especially when they were all over revvers when new. They also were not vandalised that much - the 35, 40 & 45 tended to always escape the worst of South London's bus vandalism.

Bog standard Enviro 200's but that's too modern so let me think again.
Northern Counties Paladins of all types - I hated the ridiculous small blind box at the front and for some reason, Wrightbus has repeated the trick on its Streetlite - it just makes the front of the bus look really strange. Carlyle Darts come a close second - that all said, I'd still take both Paladins & Carlyles over Enviro 200's any day lol.

TGM 601-612, later Travel London and Abellio DP/8721-32. Boring and not well kept!

The DWs (2009 onwards) are annoying too. I hate the shaking of the engine when the bus is stationary...

I was never a fan of the Plaxton President bodies. Far too functional.

For some reason I have never liked the look of a National (its successor, the Lynx was much more pleasing to the eye). The Streetlite I don't find very appealing either. Some of the new van designs being rolled out look downright ugly too!
What has happened to the days of straight lines and box shapes...

For me it has to be:
the ex Southampton Citybus East Lancs bodied Dennis Domminators Capital Citybus used on the 257 for many years, closely followed by the F-MBC ex Leicester ones. the ex Kelvin Scottish Dennis Domminators used on the East London Line routes
(and finally) the NB4L, ugly from every angle
