At present limited to 42mph (47mph when APS is active) APS is the posh form of weak field (higher acceleration rate)

Will London Underground keep any of the D stock?

Will London Underground keep any of the D stock? They are not going yet. There was a proposal couple of years back to defer the part of S stock that's due to replace D stock for upto 2 years until 2016-2017, think TfL was looking for shorter-term savings, and it wasn't that long ago the D stock was refurbished. Not sure what happened, or if contract didn't give that option. I think the overground extra carriages might have allowed some deferral (but there are parallel assembly lines at Derby so not sure) The D stock is newer (and refurbished later) than the Bakerloo and Piccadilly trains so doing now

I keep getting the D and the C stock confused. Will London Underground be keeping some of the C Stock for preservation?

I believe that the two 'C08' trains (rebuilt after 7/7) are to be preserved at Acton. Some of the D Stock are apparently going to go to Northern Rail as part of plans to electrify the line to Harrogate in a similar way to the DLR.

Some of the D Stock are apparently going to go to Northern Rail as part of plans to electrify the line to Harrogate in a similar way to the DLR. I know that some northern politicians want that to happen but I thought it had been completely debunked by Network Rail. NR have an effective ban on any form of third rail electrificaton being extended or used on their network. I cannot see them wanted to adopt an alien (to them) form of electrification and I doubt the D78s could be adapted to work off bottom contact third rail. Remember they do work off 2 current rail in London so where's the negative return going to be? I suspect the D stock will go to the scrap heap like all the other stock. They may keep one as a Rail Adhesion Train for the District Line because the A stock has clearance issues. Beyond that it's down to the LT Museum if they want to keep one. (all speculation on my part)

(all speculation on my part) Does seem to be a waste though, most LU trains cover 20 years after an overhaul. If the completion of S Stock conversion takes place by 2016, the youngest refurb would be just nine years ago. They could export them somewhere I suppose. Despite this, they have outlived their deep-level cousins by around 15 years though, given that they have single-leaf doors. I can however understand that from a TfL point of view though standardising stock so that the sub-surface lines can have the same type of train (albeit one carriage longer for the Met line), which brings me onto another question, will the older S stock be shared with the District or will they be allocated separately? I am a fan of the S Stock, which is much better than the C Stock (which in my view were in terrible condition)

The LTM at Acton will receive 1 DM of C stock as for the D stock (which I love to drive) no one is completely sure what is going to happen top them I would love them to keep two single enders and a double ended unit but finance and storage space is the problem for the LT museum

Speaking of the C Stock, a bit late now but I was on the farewell tour last week (Carriage F) but I thought I'd say thanks to all the operating officials involved for making it an enjoyable day, I thought the specially made destination blinds and in car adverts were a nice touch. I thought some of the younger members on the tour who decided to strip the train of all the line diagrams and adverts were a bit disrepectful though, some even unsuccessfully tried to remove some of the seats! (maybe that's just me getting more grumpy as I get older though) Got some photos too, www.flickr.com/photos/62959794@N06/sets/72157645520166572/

I was astounded when I saw photos of the train have been stripped at the end of its trip. I know it's destined for the scrap heap and I know TfL are trying to make money from rip off priced souvenirs from old bits of train but even so. The trains are still public assets even if at the end of their service lives. I went on the 67 stock "tour" and that was enjoyable and a lot of effort goes into these runs and I wonder if those forking out the money realise quite how much effort is made. If they're not careful then TfL / LU might decide not to bother in future if people are going to trash the train at the end. We had the graffiti nonsense with the A stock last day which was also a shame. I know the C stock wasn't the most loved of trains but I'll miss them as I commuted on them a lot and they had a certain style to them. Having not commuted for the last couple of years they've gone from "in service" to "not in service" with me not seeing the gradual changeover.

Personally, I really don't understand why people don't like the C stock, sure they were tired looking but so are the Nothern Line trains and they've not even hit 20 years old. I liked the C stock, they sounded a bit more grunty than the D stock which I dislike very much because they sound so boring.
