Optare have now uploaded the pdf with specs www.optare.com/op_metrodecker.htmPowered by a 170KW 5.1 litre Mercedes engine. Top speed 99 km/h (about 61mph) with stall on 30% grade, which is a fairly steep hill. As someone is boind to ask it has a ZF ecolife 6 speed gearbox engine power graphsLength is 10500mm and has 63 seats and 36 standing to TfL spec (99 passengers) Therefore would be possible to increase capacity by about 14% with same number of buses, or cut pvr by 10% and maintain capacity which ought to make it competitive

Having looked at the brochure, they have put a lot of effort into this bus... I may not like the rear window, but I like the hint of Tempo in it with the headlights and the dashboard layout and tech looks impressive No Voith option just yet Interesting as it shares the same engine as the new Wrightbus StreetDeck

Presumably a more powerful version would come with a) lead footed driver b) broken exhaust to increase noise c) specially embroidered rear seat moquette with "DW498 sits here" on it d) specially retractable video camera stand

99 people? That's unexpected, and seriously impressive. that could be the thing that makes this bus a major player, especially in London - not so much in the provincial market though, I expect. I reckon the E400MMC has the edge there.

I do see it selling but I don't expect this optare decker to be a major player in london as some people are expecting, also talking of 99 capacity the Gemini 3 B5TL or streetdeck is capable of that too (the streetdeck also comes with the same engine as the metrodecker), I am sure the new E400 isn't too far from that figure either seeing as the hybrid model is 93 (same there abouts as the B5LH Gemini 3s of Metroline & Stagecoach)

To my mind the cosmetic problem is that the squared-off top deck detail doesn't harmonise with the lower deck curves. The roofline of the upper front window needs a curve to mirror that below the lower windscreen, and the upper front side window likewise. Trouble is, then it would look just like a Gemini. As it is, it's half-Gemini, half-bog-standard, and that doesn't look right.

For me the rear is the biggest problem, that huge grille then the toilet shaped lower deck rear window, why not make it square atleast

I see elsewhere in that edition that Optare are planning a 12m single decker version of the Metrodecker due in 2016. Also in a 12.6m version for Australia. The all electric version of the Metrodecker is due in early 2015.

Do Optare really need another single decker when others are available?
