I think we need driverless cyclists and pedestrians in my opinion as the current crop dont seem to look out for those big red things. No the idiots causing the road issues need to read the Highway Code and stop breaking the law

Plus the idea of driverless buses is absolutely pathetic & stupid... Agreed! Money could be better spent on further reducing emission level on buses, ie more flywheel fittings.

Plus the idea of driverless buses is absolutely pathetic & stupid... I'm sure people would have once said similar things about driverless trains. Anyway I don't think they are suggesting that buses would actually be driverless (well certainly not anytime soon) just that some of the technology could possibly be used to reduce pedestrian accidents.

I find it very difficult to give even an ounce of credence to an article that cannot distinguish between "brakes" and "breaks". Are we really supposed to believe that a Professor used the term "breaks" in respect of slowing a moving vehicle?
It's all a load of cobblers because the cost of the technology and the 23 layers of back up systems that would undoubtedly be needed will never be justified in business case terms. Death and injuries are ascribed financial values for the purposes of evaluating schemes and Oxford St is hardly a death zone. I'd be astounded if any bus can get above 10 mph on Oxford St except in the early hours of the morning. The point about these so called technological advances is that they seek to shift responsibility from individuals to some abstract technology. I don't think that's the right way to go. People need to take responsibility for crossing the road - whether in Oxford St or a country village.
The "ambulance chasing" lawyers will have a field day with this technology - can you imagine how the suppliers or operators of this technology will be able to obtain public liability insurance? I can't. The cost would be beyond astronomic.
Given the bus budget is constrained do we really think TfL will be able to afford to equip hundreds of buses to comply with this technology? I can't see it. The comparison with railways is false - railways have had some level of control over movement of vehicles from the earliest days of their operation and are ideally suited as a result of their design for varying levels of automation and intensification of frequency / capacity.

Why has someone suggested a 10mph zone on Oxford Street - it's not like vehicles are hitting ridiculous speeds along there considering it's always jam packed.

This is my opinion but the political people are quick to act on HGV/PCV drivers as its easier to sort them out rather than the real problem - cyclists. It's all very well trying to bring in technology, one i watched on the one show the other day that beeps and says cyclist left but they need to learn not to undertake its common sense. I've been on the 47 going round a bend and a cyclist decided to undertake whilst im doing so in which i had to take a wider turn for the rear to avoid them.

The smartphone craze also contributes where pedestrians cross into the road whilst looking at the screen or with the headphones blaring.

We trust our report didn't upset anyone suffering from extreme stupidity syndrome. And in tomorrow's "The Stupid Show" we will be reporting from Stupid Street where Stupid People have been living the Stupid High Life on Stupid State Benefits.
