Looks as if the drivers of the T31 route are being "naughty" and upsetting the residents of Forestdale. The local London Assembly member has submitted two Mayor's Questions (see page 18 of linked document) suggesting the residents are being "plagued by anti social behaviour" and that the buses don't need to run after 2200 as they're always empty. Can't wait to see how TfL respond to those questions.

Gotta love such obscure comments I think the residents have every right to complain if this is true

I know it is not T31 related but ... I thought the comment about the 255 was interesting
This response should be interesting especially seeing as the contract ends in 2017
another interesting question was:
This is a point I've been making since I knew that the New Bus for London was going to have 3 doors. The problem that was removed from the higher capacity bus, has just transferred over to a lower capacity double decker bus.

It currently uses Euro II 10.2m DWL's which I'm expecting to be replaced soon by displaced Enviro 200's. Most of the 255's DWL's were repainted last year as well.

I've had a quick skim through and noticed there's quite a few questions concerning Streatham & hybrid buses as well as a review of bus routes in the area, a couple of questions about a Bakerloo Line extension, one about extending the Victoria to Streatham & one about reviewing the decision on not giving Brixton an Overground Station.

one about extending the Victoria to Streatham There was a public meeting recently as some people seem to think diverting Crossrail 2 between Clapham Junction and Tooting Broadway via Streatham is a simple and inexpensive matter. A TfL spokesman in attendance though apparently suggested the possibility of a Victoria line extension as capacity will be freed up to allow for it once CR2 opens. The various groups and political parties still seem intent or arguing for CR2, but I would expect once that gets confirmed without any diversion there will be a big campaign for a Victoria line extension.

The various groups and political parties still seem intent or arguing for CR2, but I would expect once that gets confirmed without any diversion there will be a big campaign for a Victoria line extension. And neither proposal will come to fruition. Boris keeps making daft comments about tube extensions [1] but there are NO plans anywhere to extend the Victoria Line. Crossrail 2 simply cannot run via Streatham - it already has a ludicrous kink in it to serve Tooting for no obvious reason. Why on earth put an even bigger kink in the route? Route options covering the Streatham area and towards Mitcham and Croydon have already been discarded in the planning phase up to the first public consultation. People seem to think that Crossrail is like the tube with trains every 1-2 minutes. It isn't and never will be. If you're on a branch you may only get 6 trains per hour with a few more in the peak. Some of the possible South Western branches on CR2 may see no more than 4 trains an hour even in the peaks. I understand that Streatham commuters have had enough of their mainline services and want to be on the tube but no politicians are advocating expansion of the tube network. Even Christian Wolmar, who I've tweeted on the subject, has stepped back from his old proposal for two new tube lines in London and now just supports Crossrail 2. I happen to think Crossrail 2 is a disaster in the making but all the politicians are mesmerised by it and think it's wonderful. [1] he tweeted something about "exciting news about extending the Bakerloo Line due soon" today but there's no money to fund whatever scheme TfL may have dreamt up. The problem is that so much of inner SE London wants to be on an extended Bakerloo Line that there will be instant criticism of whatever is suggested if it misses out Camberwell / Burgess Park / Walworth / Peckham / Old Kent Road / New Cross / Lewisham / Denmark Hill etc etc etc. (choose your route option)

There are no plans to extend the Victoria line because it does not have the capacity. It will only be once CR2 opens that this would be freed up and open up the possibility, so even initial plans cannot begin until at least 2020 when CR2 is officially confirmed and funded. No one is going to spend now on something that they cannot even begin work on until the 2030s and while it is dependent on another unapproved project. And given the current effort locally being put behind a CR2 diversion it will only be once that is officially killed off that a Victoria line campaign will begin. In fairness to their stubbornness, while it is impossible for them to win the CR2 argument they already managed to defeat one fait accompli in keeping the Sutton loop as part of Thameslink. Both congestion and air quality on the A23 will no doubt also be used to push the argument as they are only going to get worse. One of the reasons so many buses run along it to Brixton is for access to the tube. Even from Streatham a lot of people commute that was despite the buses passing two National Rail stations. Whether or not it will come to anything, there will be a big push for it eventually.

The people complaining or me pointing out Mayor's Questions? The people complaining mate. Well 'mate' wouldn't you be complaining if people were urinating and making a racket outside your house? ? I'm not sure that the T31 is needed at Forestdale anyway, surely the T33 suffices and the main flow is towards Selsdon and Croydon anyway. But the blindingly simple solution would be not to have any stand time and Forestdale and have some recovery time at Addington Village instead, where there are are toilet facilities for drivers.

One of the reasons so many buses run along it to Brixton is for access to the tube. Even from Streatham a lot of people commute that was despite the buses passing two National Rail stations. Whether or not it will come to anything, there will be a big push for it eventually. I didn't express myself very clearly. The Victoria Line is already chronically overloaded so why would you extend it? I accept a large number of people boarding at Brixton clearly come down from Streatham by bus but as soon as you introduce a tube line it has a generative effect along the whole line. The rest of the line simply cannot cope with more people with stations being a big problem. None of the capacity work at Victoria is doing anything about platform space and it's the platforms that jam solid. There are similar issues elsewhere but no plans to do anything about it. There are plans to boost the Victoria Line to 36 tph in the peaks but that's the absolute limit that can be achieved. *If* Streatham wants the Tube it should be arguing on the basis of a brand new line which gives new links and which will not immediately overload other routes. A sub surface profile line but with high performance automatic trains giving 36-40 tph is what is needed. It will give a vast capacity increase, new links, fast journey times and might deliver some capacity relief (in the short term) to the Victoria and Northern Lines. My worry with CR2 is that if it veered via Streatham then journey times for everyone in SW London would increase plus trains are likely to be full on inward AM peak journeys so the residents of Streatham would still have crush loaded journeys. I don't view that as an improvement and longer jny times reduce the business case for the main scheme. The people who argued about the Wimbledon loop have, of course, shot themselves in the foot. By going on and on about the trains running north of Blackfriars they've wrecked the Thameslink planning assumptions and deprived themselves of a doubled train service. If the Wimbleloop trains had terminated at Blackfriars the trains would have been increased to x15 mins but now have to remain at half hourly in order to fit into the service pattern. The local politicians are still saying they will campaign for more frequent trains but seem oblivious to the fact that their campaigning has *stopped* more frequent trains! Worse we also have no trains from the Dartford direction heading into Thameslink any more. Hundreds of millions are being spent to connect those tracks into the Thameslink route east of London Bridge but the Wimbleloop decision means there are no paths via Blackfriars for those trains. Now you can argue about how the whole issue has been handled but we have a load of infrastructure being put in place that has been rendered useless by one local campaign demanding through trains. It's a shambles.
