Due to my school finishing early, I got to the Bermondsey area just as the two local schools, Bacons College and CoLA, as well as some primary schools in the area finished. That might have been the most miserable experience of london buses ive ever had. There needs to be a revision of buses in Bermondsey, and these are some ones ive just thought of.
615 - New school route running from Peckham to Canada Water via old (current) 381. Surprisingly, this will be the first school route to serve Peckham.
381 and P12 - 381 now goes under the bridge at Rotherhithe New Road and turns left to follow current P12’s routing. Now serves The Den, Old Kent Road Aldi as well as Queen’s Road Peckham Station. P12 now serves 381’s missing section from St James’s Road to Peckham, with the help of
436 - Runs from Battersea Park to Canada Water via old 381 from Peckham Library to St James’s Road then the entire length of said road(bridge has a 16’ limit)to be able to serve Bermondsey Station, then via 188. 24Hr service to compensate from loss of N381. Links the Jubilee, Victoria and Northern lines. Replaced by the 445 idea (the one from Clapham Junc to Lewisham via 345)
N136 - Service no longer required, so diverted via 343 and 136 to Aldgate from Peckham.
N343 - Withdrawn.
78 - Route made 24 hour so link from Nunhead/Peckham Rye to Tower Bridge Rd and beyond remains.

415 - Extended to Canada Water via 78, then 1. Links SW London to Canada Water for the first time since 2004. Replaces most of old 381.
If need be 225 can be extended to Pepys Estate or Surrey Quays SC for space.
You may disagree with some or all of these which i apologise in advance for.

If links from the east into Central London are poor, could this always be a solution?

A Route 115 extension from Aldgate to London Bridge via the old 40 (that link was always popular on the 40) & possibly a diversion of the 115 from Newham Town Hall to Barking (to relieve the 5/238)? This would obviously have it's downfalls, mainly being East London Traffic, the A13 & Blackwall Tunnel.

The 40 has not run Blackwall via the Aldgate for over 20 years I'm sure travel habits have changed a lot especially with better rail links so don't think we can say it would be popular now. I used the 115 a lot before Covid and it was usually pretty empty by the last stop so don't think too many passengers would then travel across London Bridge and its pretty easy to change to a 42 or 78 at Aldgate.

Said it before but would much prefer genuine new routes instead of lumping extensions onto existing routes.

Extend Route 194 to Upper Sydenham via the current 356 route from Lower Sydenham to Upper Sydenham via Forest Hill, while the 356 runs between Lower Sydenham and Shirley only. This would increase capacity on the busy Forest Hill to Lower Sydenham corridor.

The 176 supports the 197 between Dulwich Library and Penge and would see a loss of capacity between Forest Hill and Penge.   The 197 has a lower frequency as well, especially on Sundays which would the FH to Penge section reduced from 9bph to 3bph.

Extending the 194 would improve the service to Forest Hill along Wells Park Road with a more regular service.

Yes the 194 would be better, whether it could be justified in the current climate is another matter. Rerouting the 176 would give Lower Sydenham a link to Dulwich and beyond. The 197 could probably justify 4bph Sunday daytime.

To correct myself, it's 8bph currently between Forest Hill and Penge on Sundays. 5bph on the 176 and 3bph on the 197.

Sydenham itself is well served by buses from Forest Hill when you add the 122 as well (and that's before you factor in the trains from Forest Hill which are every 3-7 mins), while Lower Sydenham is served by 3bph on the 356 weekdays and Saturday and 2bph on evenings and Sundays.

The 156 and 344 are both sufficient, plus interchange is fairly easy from the 77/87 to the 137/452, both of which stop a stones throw from BPS. I think it would be far more valuable to reroute the 219 via Wimbledon Stadium to provide additional links to tube and rail links for Plough Lane visitors.
270: Really doesn’t need to be another link to Clapham Junction up West Hill, way overbussed as it is.
414: There isn’t a suitable turnaround at the Mitre, you’d probably have to go to Tooting Station. Could suffer reliability issues and if it remains, better as a short hopper route to aid reliability on the 14.

You can’t forget about the 345 from Clapham junction to battersea

This route mirrors a lot of existing routes. And considering people will probably just take the DLR between Stratford and Crossharbour anyway. But I'm not that clued on East London and the Docklands so maybe there's more use for this route than I realise
