My friends from school were at the crash scene after i left on a 407 (8526) One told me that he and a few other mates from school were told by the police that they couldn't take pictures of T54 or their phones would be seized and used as evidence. Why would this have been?

This is why I believe we should have jay walking laws in this country. Prosecute those who do not use crossings. I've been in that situation, I mowed someone down on the 364's. Wasn't my fault and couldn't be avoided. But still took me 2 weeks before I could sleep properly without seeing the look on his face when I hit him. Too many people think they can just cross in front of a bus and expect it to stop or slow down for them. One of the worst places - and Jay will be able to back me up here - is the mini roundabout at the junction of Orpington High Street and Homefield Rise. Despite there being a controlled crossing just a few metres up Homefield Rise people insist on crossing right at the roundabout and most of them don't bother to look. I've lost count of the number of times I've had to avoid people there. They even cross right in front of you while you are waiting to pull out of Homefield Rise and waiting for an appropriate gap in the traffic. Morons.

Have a look at the German version of the Highway Code - jaywalking is illegal there. Many thoughts to all involved : victim, victim's family, bus driver, witnesses, passengers.

What happens to a driver if they hit someone and wasn't their fault? I wonder if Steve80 or jay38a have ever been in this scenario @chazaroo Ive seen countries with underpasses so that they can't get hit by a bus or car, like Singapore. Unfortunately, I been in many situations including colliding into a motor vehicle, a police car , and also knocking someone off their bike. Fortunately, I was not entirely at fault for any of them (cyclist jumped the red light and rode into the side of my bus, motor vehicle cut me up at roundabout, and police car didn't give me enough room to make the turn) and all accidents were deemed as 50/50. Anyway, this happened almost a decade ago and must admit that my driving standards back then was not brilliant Now at Abellio and my only major incident I can think of was on the 152 when two passengers with their kid was running for my bus at the Runnymede bus stop. I just pulled up at the stop but the kid was running too close to my bus and slipped underneath. Unfortunately, the passengers thought I ran him over and were screaming at me telling me to stop the bus and reverse. After all the commotion, another 152 pulls up and most got on that bus but a few passengers stayed on board. Finally, the ambulance came and basically told the few passengers that if I had ran over the kid then he basically wouldn't have a leg. Its only then the passengers finally realised this and apologised to me but then they started arguing with the parents of the kid But as for your situation, I never had it like that. I been on a 410 at East Croydon only for the driver to turn the corner and hit someone at a pedestrian crossing (the crossing at the tram stop). The windscreen never smashed though so it must have been pretty shocking when you witnessed that. I heard that the victim might sustain life changing injuries which is sad. I'm also worried about the bus driver. Because of the way the industry is, he could even end up losing his job

It was a gang fight outside ilford library and the police showed up so they all split and done a runner. Lucky for the guy I hit, his mate had already crossed so I was already braking when he ran from behind a double decker. I slammed him, otherwise it could have been a lot worse. I was cleared at the scene and work gave me time off. I remember seeing that bus in exactly the same location, But I guess I dismissed it as a case of an idiot throwing a rock at the bus for a laugh. Personally I think that considering a zebra crossing was a shaft distance away, this guy was out of his mind.

It was very shocking Steve80 , Everyone except me screamed after T54 mowed the man down, but you're right that the victim might sustain life-changing injuries, and i don't think the driver would be fired, as it was not his fault, the guy crossed when the pedestrian light was red. I read that one of Abellio's Gemini's recently hit someone on the 157. Am i right?

I read that one of Abellio's Gemini's recently hit someone on the 157. Am i right? The incident I had on the 152 was about 4 years ago so I can't remember what bus I had. I think it was one of those 51 reg Darts. The kid had a nasty graze on his leg. I wouldn't expect the driver to be fired but I have heard of drivers losing their jobs because they had previous bad history. We had one driver on the T33 who had an incident where a man walked into the side of his bus. There was no injuries and it was a minor incident but the driver decided to report it just to be on the safe side. When the managers downloaded the CCTV they found that the bus was slightly on the pavement so they sacked him. I'm not sure of the full story and others might say that the bus should never be on the pavement, but I would say that you try and drive those buses on the T33 and there are times when you have to use the pavement otherwise you would not be going anywhere. Anyway, there are plenty more incidents where drivers have lost their jobs despite being involved in an incident where they were not blameworthy. Also, you are right in that there was also an incident involving one of the 157 buses in Croydon about 2 weeks ago. Apparently, the pedestrian was on their phone and crossed the road without looking and walked right into the side of the bus where the wheel arch is. I'm not sure what's happened to the driver but I haven't seen him since.

My friends and my dad jaywalk often. I tell them not to every time I see them do it. My friends usually take it in but my dad just gets angry. Seriously, he doesn't understand the word 'safe'. He drives without a seatbelt. He'll happily drive with 6 people in a 5-seater car like it's nothing. I've refused to travel at times because it's unsafe. I do cross in the middle of the road sometimes but only when there's no cars and I only do it on quite, side roads. I never cross in the middle of a main road. Also, I always wait for the green man at crossings regardless of whether there's any cars coming or not. Sometimes I look like a bit of an idiot when everyone else is crossing but I don't compromise on safety.
Not that it always helps though. Once when waiting at the crossing I noticed the lights change red and the oncoming 25 slowing down. I decided to wait for the green man anyway. When it came on I started crossing. Unfortunately, one cyclist decided the lights didn't apply to him and that the bus was blocking him, so went round the bus (the nearside of the bus). Well, as soon as I passed the bus the cyclist smashed into me. He was going kind of fast and I got bruised on my arm and got cut on my arms and hands. It wasn't so bad but still kind of a scary experience.
Hope the driver and victim are OK, hope both of them get well soon.
How fast would the bus have had to be travelling so that the windscreen cracked?
