The obvious issue that clearly seems to be getting overlooked here is that TfL while in full cuts mode has still established the 414 is needed to support the 14. So chances are TfL has probably done every sum possible to see if they can kill off the whole route but it's not worked out. I think that's enough justification in itself that the route is needed south of Marble Arch. The advantage the 414 does have is that it allows the solo sections of the 14 to have been scaled back and possibly will drop again as Hyde Park Corner to TCR doesn't need an increase and PB to Putney heath doesn't either. Axe the 414 then probaly 3 or more 14s per hour would be needed. In that case may as well curtail the 14 at Piccadilly Circus, could use the 94 stand if that's cut back, and run the 414 from Putney Bridge to Tottenham Court Road/Russell Square with a 4/5 minute headway on the common section.

The obsession with cutting routes is a joke and not a funny one. Even after a route have been awarded people are still debating the need! I'm sure TfL knows what it's doing. Tfl awarded the 48 not that long before it was leaked that it would be cut.

Its a much more formal process to change the terminal, as have to issue Consultation, wait a few weeks, collate answers, publish. Cutting (or increasing) frequency can be done without any of this.

Yes I realise that and no doubt that's why we are seeing frequency reductions rather than route changes. As there is a consultation about cutting half the 414 TfL might as well have made the consultation about axing the route completely and it could have saved something else.

Of course, there is no guarantee that TfL would save something else if the 414 was completely axed given they are in full on cut mode

Bl**dy H*ll - despite being an avid vistor to the LB's website - I am struggling to keep up with the current rash of changes - turned my back for 1/2 hour this week and the U3 TE's which I'd been intending to photograph get all but ousted by a crop of random SD's ................... what next ?? It's been earmarked to sadly return to single deckers for the last month or so at least. The biggest shame is the route could do with the capacity upgrade as well. The only crumb I can offer is deckers did appear every now and then even when it was previously single deck or wait till September as the U3 uses TE's on school journeys, not ideal of course.

Will Minories ever become two way for buses again do we reckon? LBR has just confirmed the "temporary" routing via Mansell Street is to be extended to at least the end of October.

The 15 running that way would be really good as it allows the connection into Aldgate being two way, however you're right because the 343s stand there most of the time and while in theory they could all stand at Houndsditch it'd almost certainly overcrowd that stand.
