Reported elsewhere, but GWR are to trial a batter-electric Vivarail train on the West Ealing-Greenford branch line. As part of the trial, Vivarail will also supply and install fast charging equipment at the bay platform in West Ealing. The trial is being funded to the tune of £2.15 million through the Department for Transport’s Rail Network Enhancement Pipeline (RNEP) and the fast charging equipment is being supported by Innovate UK. The train will be class 230 and will be battery-only, with no diesel back-up. When does the trial start?

Don't know if it's been reported but Vivarail have entered administration and because of this there is no service until further notice on the Bedford to Bletchley line taken from London North Western website
Unfortunately, Vivarail, the maintainers for the Class 230 trains which serve the Marston Vale line have entered into administration. As a result, we are currently unable to provide a rail service on this route.

So what will happen to the battery powered train that's supposed to go on trial soon? Has that been put on hold now?

Pretty Amazing that your bog standard London train from the 1980s right up until 2010s is now rattling about in the big old US of A , They don't seem to be rattling about though anymore in Bedfordshire which is a shame and won't be anymore going forwards , LNWR are going backwards and getting some released Cl150s from somewhere ( I'm assuming tfw ) which will be used for peaks only for some reason from September then from next year all day , I don't see why whoever does the maintenance for tfw can't do the maintenance for LNWR but as stated in this like they are unreliable also tfw seem to be having some sort of issue as buses seem to be replacing the trains a lot and they seem to be running late or delayed very often now they are actually in service . www.londonnorthwesternrailway.co.uk/travel-information/service-disruptions/marston-vale-line-buses-replace-trains-until-autumn-2023

As I am in Liverpool on May 13th (to capture the Eurovision vibes) I may well ride one then EDIT: I understand now that these are for now Mon-Fri only. I shall therefore postpone the Wirral and concentrate on Liverpool and maybe areas further north.

GwR has now purchased 67 former D Stock cars that were initially purchased by VivaRail, it is not known if LNWR 230.003-005 are included in this 67.

If the Greenford battery trial goes well, they would then heavily refurbish them into the style of 230/484, possibly Greenford, Henley, Windsor etc

In a change of plan, this morning I am reaching Liverpool via East Didsbury, Shotton and a bus from Upton. Although I believe the 230s do not run on the Wrexham to Bidston line at weekends, I might be lucky! EDIT: It was a TfW class 150 (ie not a loan from Northern). My train to Shotton was a 175 and therefore not a 197. Next year I hope to travel East Didsbury - Shotton - Bidston - Liverpool so that I can do my first 197, 230 & 777 all in 1 go.
