Virgin & Stagecoach will jointly operate it rather than just Virgin.

I believe it is going to run under the 'Virgin East Coast name.' Good luck to them, I've always found Virgin West Coast to be excellent on all the times I've travelled with them.

Virgin & Stagecoach will jointly operate it rather than just Virgin. It's really a Stagecoach company as they have a 90% share of the East Coast company. Virgin hold the balancing 10% but I suspect it will be the Virgin name that is prominent in the branding. Stagecoach corporate announcementThe bit I'm bemused about is how they are going to run all the extra services they are promising given there is not a surplus of capacity on the route and Grand Central (Arriva in disguise) have been granted longer term rights to run their services to West Yorkshire and Sunderland. I suspect First Group will also continue running Hull Trains so there is going to be more "competition" for passengers but also pressure on train paths right throughout the route. I can't see places like York and Doncaster functioning very well given the related pressures to increase Trans Pennine Express services post electrification and local services off the back of the retendering of the Northern Rail franchise. Difficult times ahead, I think, given there's no obvious line upgrade in prospect.

So what train did I see? Unless is something else Your observation matches the time the train positioned on the Kings Cross Incline, which is between Camden Road South Junction - Caledonian Road & Barnsbury. The train subsequently departed from the incline and is now sitting at London Kings Cross apart of the press launch by VTEC MD David Horne.

Unfortunately I didn't make it out to snap the Virgin Azuma. I won't bore you as to why. However someone else did make it to Hampstead Heath where I was hoping to get to. Now I wish I had gone given the train actually stopped in the platform! Not my video but shows the new train very well. Accelerates pretty smartly too.

Look likes quite a nice train from the video. Is it me or the train looks quite thin?

Look likes quite a nice train from the video. Is it me or the train looks quite thin? Think optical illusion based on the nose shape.
