One to watch if you're a fan of Leyland Titans. Thames News on the strike action at London Forest at WW garage. My old chum - Roger Torode - was the garage manager and is on the video. When the strike took place the strike placards said "on the Torode to Ruin". After weeks of disputes and all sorts of odd routes like an enhanced 505 to Chingford and 251 along part of the 123 and Grey GReen and London Buslines buses on local routes it all came to an end.

I also posted the video on the Yahoo LT Group. Leon Daniels replied and said the driver iinterviewed on the clip ended as a supervisor and instructor with Capital Citybus so he didn't do too badly in the end!
The Walthamstow debacle also taught the other LBL subsidiaries some lessons which is why we got Kingston Bus, Bexleybus, Roundabout, Harrow Buses, Sutton Bus and Westlink with the resultant downward pressure on wages / T&Cs when other area tendering schemes came along.

Regarding the part about them losing work etc...Didn't TUPE apply back then for drivers?

Wikipedia says there was original legislation in 1981 later replaced in 2006 and then a further update in 2014. TUPE guideAs it was early days and the extent of route losses were not well understood it may not have been a factor. London Forest did actually win all the contracts but had to agree a deal with its staff. It didn't so all the work went to the second place bidders which brought in Capital Citybus, Thamesway and County Bus. I imagine some staff did go to the new companies but voluntarily and some went elsewhere in LBL. I know some drivers ended up at other garages simply because I recognised them.
