I noticed route 453 has running numbers around 440 now so I'm guessing it's changed in preparation for NX?

I remember first working out the significance of running numbers when as a child it dawned on me the same buses worked in a cycle all day on my old local route the 270 in Hampton. Being OCD I examined the timetables of all the FW routes then and mapped out when the buses left and returned to the garage. The only route I never got to grips with was the cursed 33 as the numbers didn't run in sequence due to half service terminating at Hammersmith. No use if you spotted a certain favourite bus going past and wanted to plan to intercept it somewhere later on.
For those aged under 20 , this was what life was like pre LVF !!
Sad that still remember FW 132 was last bus out MonFri & 133 on Saturdays.

Sad that still remember FW 132 was last bus out MonFri & 133 on Saturdays. Obviously all bus routes run to some short of schedule but running numbers were a totally new thing to me when I turned up in London. No companies in the North East displayed running numbers on vehicles in any form so it was impossible to work anything out without sitting for hours watching a route. I did used to enjoy looking at the timetables and working out which routes were interworked with each other. Some were obvious but others were quite unexpected but common termini and long turnround times on a route where a good hint that a route interworked with something else as many routes were worked on 2-4 minute turnround times even when interworked. London was a complete shock with almost routes having a fixed allocation and little or no interworking. A complete contrast to what I'd grown up with.

I've always found it odd that at TB some routes have running numbers based on the order buses leave the garage (208), and others on the order they end up in out on the road (261), which aren't necessarily the same.

Neither is the 261 looking at the online schedule. At one point some routes were like that at PD & TL. The majority of routes have the running numbers in numerical order now.

It makes far more sense to have them in order out on the road IMO.
