Does anyone here actually have a bus themselves? It looks cool to have one! What are the first steps into buying it and can u just drive around the country with or without being DDA compliant. Anyways back to the topic... I would own either a 54reg MCV darts currently at go ahead london(if this was to be selled in a decade) or a cateano nimbus dart. Would it be big enough for a normal car garage or what else can u store it in? If I was to buy, it would be in 20 years.😉

If I decide to buy, can I make a route and carry passengers to run by me (ie not a bus operator) or do I need to apply for a special license to operate or make a route?

You cant just make up a route to drive. They have to be registered with the local council and traffic commissioner. You would need different insurance being Hire & reward. You would have to gain an operators licence ( o licence) granted by the traffic commissioner.

Do u take this bus out and about or is it display in a bus preservation group/museum? They are very expensive. But to run them it's cheaper than a car believe it or not. The only expensive thing is storage cos u can't just put it on your driveway. Mine are out and about a lot most shows u will see something I own

Well it depends on where You wish to store them. Each bus in some places is £275 plus vat per month. (Mine are a lot less) then there is tax, insurance, MOT, LEZ, owning a bus isn't cheap.

Do u keep it in London or outside? How long have u preserved them? My guess is u probably brought them from ensign bus?

They live outside of London in a secure lock up, depends on what the vehicle is. And nope I go direct to the bus companies themselves

Are any of your buses, by any chance, LEZ compliant?

I would love to get my hands on G315YHJ - one of the earliest DAF Optare Deltas, new to Harris Bus in West Thurrock, in it's original livery of blue and white. I remember being taken aback by seeing it going down the road at the back of my house, when the staple buses on the route that went past at that time at the start of the 90's was Leyland Atlantean and Nationals on the 370. Harris Bus started a new route, the 303 from Chadwell St Mary to Romford and they bought two of the Deltas specifically for it. G314YHJ was the other one. www.flickr.com/photos/46341292@N05/6596258885On the Optare theme, I'd also like to have Stagecoach Optare Versa 25302 and preserve it in it's training bus guise, as that's what I passed my test in (the first person to ever take and pass a test in any of the Versa training buses). Lastly, a London Country Leyland Atlantean, one of the KPJ***W batch that was new to GY as I rode on them more times than I care to remember. In it's as new livery of course.

I suspect some forum members will be arranging for "men in white coats" to pay you a visit for suggesting the preservation of an Optare Versa. I rather like Versas but some hate them with a passion.

Under normal circumstances, i wouldn't bother, but it's sentimental reasons, innit? (Emphasising the mental in sentimental!)
