But even during the Ken years most new routes were only split off ends like the 333,363,430,436 etc or were renumbering of sections overlapping sections like the 253,427,432. The 493 was one of the few completely new routes back then. Three more new routes were created at that time, designed to deal with congestion charging, which were the 148, 205 and 388. The 148 and 205 seem to have good patronage, not too sure about the 388 as I've only seen it off-peak and it doesn't look too busy. 433 isn't going to be a new route per se, it's just the renumbering of the T33, not sure if it will be extended or not though.

Since the extension to Stratford City it seems to be more popular during peak hours from what I've seen on a few occasions (during the strikes the buses were packed with some missing stops!). You're right in saying Off-peak doesn't look too busy. I think the lack of directness of the route puts people off. The route could be faster than the 25 but the zig zag nature can make it seem much longer than it actually is. I think Hackney council should of looked at 'two-waying' Cassland Road or Victoria Park Road as well as Wick Road because it's not only the 26 that could do with an improved service, the 388 could do with some directness itself.

I don't see the 388 at the City end very much but the last few times I've seen it at Stratford City it has been doing rather better. The numbers boarding and alighting seem to be growing now after what was a very very slow start compared to a route like the 97 which was an instant success when extended to Stratford City. A notable number of "yummy mummies replete with buggies" are using the 388 these days.

Out of interest, was the last standard double deck route to be introduced the 415 in 2008? That or the 135 depends on the the dates. EDIT: Just checked on Londonbusroutes.net the 415 contract is March and the 135 is May. Making the 135 the more recent of the two This won’t hold true when X140 and 306 start in December

you can include the N140, N250,N266 to the next 5 new bus routes And N25 / N27 to recent new routes I would put night routes in a separate category but that's just me as routes like the N25, N140, N266 aren't really new routes in their own right more just replicating existing day routes in night form.
